It was fine early on when you got a lot of great matchups, but specifically for our athletic department I think it started getting harder to get teams to agree to play in them when they knew we were the opponent.

Agreeing to the Orlando and Atlanta games in 2018 and 2019 and getting stuck with Louisville and Duke, I think, really made them question whether it was worth the gamble of those games anymore. Add to that the push from donors and fans to play more Home and Homes and Saban's approval and I think it kind of went from there.

Those games will be anti climactic since Saban will be long gone by 2026

I think neural sites have run their course. Looking at them last year, I don’t think any of them sold out, fan interest seems to be completely out on them (thank god)

I’ve really enjoyed the neural site games but I’ll admit I’m pumped to make some of these upcoming road games.

I think they work in for a school to do them once every 4-5 years if it a matchup that you have to fit in to a 1 year period, but they are not good to be done every year or every other year.

So he’s going to be gone by 2022 for the game at Texas?

Counterpoint : Saban scheduled a home and home with West Virginia for a swan song first and only game at the state school up the road from his hometown. A true final send off.

I'm telling y'all, he is going to randomly announce he is retiring one day and 2 months later it will come out that the reason was he mis-evaluated a 16 year old kid's hip movement at a summer camp and it told him he couldn't compete at the highest level anymore and he was done.

That's how it's going to end. That is the most Saban way for it to end.

How old would he be in ‘26? He might not want cream pies and 16 hour work days at that point.

That fricker is gonna want 16 hour days and cream pies until his heart stops. Doesn't mean he'll still be able to do it, but he'll want it until he croaks.

I chuckled because I could kinda see that but at the same time I still think he wants his departure to fit his career. He may go out after his next NC

I say this in all of these threads but I am envious. I get that we have Clemson every year and we usually toss in an NC State, UNC, or ECU, but I'd like to get out and play some more P5 teams. We had a home and home vs GT lined up but that got canceled a number of years ago.

I did for a little bit, but I'm done with them. Last year we played 4 neutral site games. That's ridiculous. We only play 7 in the 100 thousand seat stadium on campus, and 3 of those are against G5/FCS opponents.

Can't really justify donating to overhaul the stadium when we play so few of our major games in it. The playoff semifinals need to be campus too.

The travel cost to fans is too much, and it would help Tuscaloosa greatly to have a semifinal on campus. Not to mention the Orange Bowl was a really corporate atmosphere. That was one of the worst in-game experiences I've had.

Honestly nothing would shock me at this point. I do think he really has changed his general personality/family relationship stuff since he has had grandkids. I just don't think anybody other than the people super close to him really have any idea how close he is on the dial to being ready to hand it over.
