Wimp had to walk into a terrible situation because of the whole hitting a secretary thing. He did that to himself.

Grant has been unemployed for just over a week.

Alabama was Hobbs' first and last HC gig, unless you want to count his time for Japan, but he was a very good assistant before and after leaving UA.

Hell, we've only had 5 coaches since the late 60s. 3 of those coached at least 10 years at UA.

Newton resigned from UA to become assistant commissioner of the SEC. He had no plans to coach again until Roy Kramer, the AD at Vandy, asked him to be their coach.

I seriously love the idea in here that Greg Marshall couldn't translate to the SEC

Says every Bama fan after Grant was hired.

Can Marshall recruit? No idea....
Can he beat teams with 4 and 5 star talent week after week? No idea.....

All we know is he is an excellent X's and O's guy who can win in a weak conference and has had a few good runs in the tournament.

He does not have the kind of AAU relationships that other big names have. His name means nothing to a 16 year old.

He's an awesome coach and I hope we land him, but he is not the sure thing Bama fans think him to be. He is not a Saban or Calipari that will instantly put Bama in the top 5 of every recruits list.

How did the Anthony Grant experiment work out? He was extremely successful at a program very similar to Wichita St..

Marshall is at a school where basketball is king. It will not be that way at bama.

Those 2 are at schools that would match.

Maybe. Or perhaps they know they can win without them and tell them to move on if the money is that important.

We are talking about doubling their salary. If Sean Miller was that important to Arizona, they would already be paying him 5 mil instead of 2.

Seriously comparing Grant and Marshall is just lazy and honestly sort of laughable.

Or get Archie Miller for 2.5.

He's the best possible candidate to replace Grant. He's the most realistic, best candidate to replace Grant. We will not pull a big time coach from a blue blood program. We have to make this kind of hire and hope it works out.

Billy Donavon is at a school where basketball isn't king and he won back to back national titles.

How did your coach from UTEP do at AU? Had great success at a program similar to Wichita St and had great contacts with World Wide Wes. With the new dynamic support at AU he should have been a lock for great things at AU.

With AU being such a football school, will that hamper Pearl?

Yes, but Pearl isn't making $5+ a year

Sean Miller has underachieved and Greg Marshall has overachieved. If Arizona won't pay him $5m why the hell should we? If they are willing to let him go that should tell you everything you need to know.

I honestly don't remember a single Auburn fan blowing him like bama fans are doing with Marshall.

Giving Marshall 5 million would be like Kentucky paying Chris Peterson 8 million back when he was at Boise.

He's worth 3-3.5.

Yep. Battle should probably lose his job if Marshall gets a $5 million offer. There are only four coaches in the NCAA even making $4 million.

Billy Donovan is at a school where a premium is placed on every single sport.

Of course he's no Saban or Cal but...

You serious Clark?

ok

So if we pay Marshall 4+ with full control of the program and a recruiting budget be size of UK, he will still struggle because we are a football first school?

Believe it or not, schools can be badass at more than one sport.

Until he decides to go elsewhere....then he will be just another overrated coach.
