$3,000,000 won't bring Marshall to T-Town. With his success over the past five years and the rock solid execution and fundamentals his team show, he is one of the top 2-3 candidates for any top tier program that needs a coach. My guess is somewhere between $4-5 million might get him if he sees an opportunity to recruit and win.

The ante has been upped to 4.5, apparently

A good many schools could probably match the 3 million or come close to it with the success of the Big Ten & SEC networks.
Actually, they probably couldn't. Or wouldn't. The fact is that only 8 schools currently pay as much as 3 million. And only 21 pay as much as 2 million.

quote:The big question is: Will Bama pay a mid-major basketball coach, no matter how highly regarded, the same as Nick Saban?? Because that is what it may take. I will be mightily impressed with their commitment to winning basketball if they do.

I said it a few pages back, but our first offer should be exactly what we gave Saban back when we first got him.

Why is it being upped? Is he negotiating while his team is still playing?

You mean, make him the 5th highest paid coach in the country. More than Billy Donovan. More than Tom Izzo.
Some posters on this board are utterly clueless about what most coaches in the country currently make.

I'm pretty sure Saban makes about $7-8 mil.

he and his agent have almost certainly been discussing it, of course.
ETA: the 4.5 number is what we're willing to pay. I don't think the actual negotiations have started. But we just made sure interest was reciprocated.

You are right; Saban is now over 7 Mil. I was looking at some old data before

I still think $4-5 million is what it will take. Remember, Alabama is not exactly a highly sought after basketball job. They will need to pay a premium over what Indiana would have to pay Marshall.

Highly doubt they are negotiating at this time. HIGHLY doubt it.

We understand that and are absolutely willing to do it.
The keys will be A: Does Texas fire Barnes?
B: How much is Wich. St. willing to pay? Can they even get within 1.5-2 million?

Initial offer rumored to be $25M over 6 years with bonus opportunity to push it up to $30M over 6 years. The contract will be fully gtd as long as he stays away from NCAA trouble.
It may go higher than that before he signs, but rumor in agent circles is that's the starting point.

I don't think he's going anywhere. By seeing his comments in the press, I think he he is positioning for a huge pay raise from the Koch brothers.

Because his team is in the sweet 16. Surely he's focused on that.
If yall offer him 6-7M per year. He'll probably take it, and kudos for dropping that kind of money.

Do you understand how this works? The agent knows what Marshall wants, and acts on his behalf.

Obviously you are not familiar with the role of an agent

Do you not understand that his agent would speak with his client. That would just be incredibly poor taste and ethics to do something like that.
Which again, I highly doubt it. More likely, Bama fans/media have whipped themselves into a "we are getting Gregg Marshall" frenzy throwing around baseless information when no discussions have even taken place.
