The News has reported that about 200 student-athletes are involved over a four-year period.
hmmmm.

Some athletes received "an extra benefit in the form of non-required textbooks, materials or supplies for themselves or for family members, friends or other student-athletes.
of course they weren't selling the books.

But Alabama administrators asked the NCAA to recognize that many of the athletes did not mean to violate the rules
many considered that they were not breaking the rules?
Forget the NCAA just for a minute and think about how many students and how long this went on? Someone should have blown the whistle alot sooner.

true. but if the only football players were the ones we already know to be involved then the football program shouldn't be penalized as hard.

True, but if we don't lose any scholarships I'll be shocked.

All of them should get tectbooks free anyway! The NCAA is insane.

They do, but what they can't do is sell or give those free books to others. Which is what they did. Way to have a rantarded opinion.

You're obviously uninformed.

This I agree with.

That's a damned good question. I have no idea what their function is, or who appoints/elects the members, etc.

I could give two shits whether or not Auburn or LSU players gave away text books. I can't fathom that being something I would even come close to giving a shite about. I find it absolutely hillarious that some of you have gotten so worked up over some inconsequential bullshite like this. If you wish sanctions on our team for this you are a sad, sad person imo.

The people in the know who originally leaked the info on other boards that we would hear from the NCAA today are also being very, very positive about what the ruling for the football team will be. I'm starting to think we might not lose any schollies, or at least less than was first thought. Which was two over two years I believe.

Slap on the wrist and some from free publicity....typical
The NCAA should never put any school on probation. It serves no purpose and that will be exemplified tomorrow.
Any infraction no matter how small(and it was a small one) should be strictly dealt with by the Governing body NCAA, if it wants probation to be taken seriously. Its not going to happen. They have ignored minor infractions in the past for others this will be no different.

I'm thankful there is a precedent. If they do something way out of scale, historically, then we'll have an iron-clad appeal. frick the NCAA, whoever they are.

FWIW, I'm also hearing some of the other sports involved are going to get hit pretty hard. No one every released exactly which athletes did what. May have been that the football players weren't the one getting books for people, but part of the group that just accidentally got the supplementary stuff (ie study booklets, etc)
