“I’m responsible,” said Jackie Sherrill, Texas A&M;'s coach and athletic director. “It’s my job. I’m responsible for the program and to make sure things are done correctly.”
I know a guy who played for Sherrill as a walk-on at State. He told me they passed out roids like candy in the locker room. Sherrill was dirty everywhere he went, and he learned from the best.

Dickerson was the subject of recruiting controversy when he started driving a new Pontiac Trans-Am during his senior year of high school.[2] According to "myth," Dickerson began driving a new Pontiac Trans-Am automobile about the same time he committed to A&M, and, when he signed with SMU, he suddenly was not driving the Trans-Am because it had been destroyed by a vengeful Aggie".[3] Ron Meyer famously called the car, the "Trans A&M." At the time he said his grandmother from Mexico bought it for him. Dickerson still refuses to answer on whether or not he accepted anything to attend SMU, saying, "Even if I did take something, I still wouldn't tell."[4]

Your story is almost correct. He kept that Trans AM.
He did sell it to a SMU teammate after his sophomore year & was given the corvette by George Owen, one of the 9 SMU boosters banned for life by the NCAA in '87.
George Owens' story is a peach in it's own right.. Murchison Jr's (old Cowboys owner) right hand guy, best friends with LBJ's mistress, throw in some Jack Ruby connections.. no meaningful backroom deals went down in Dallas for decades that Owens wasn't privy to.

SMU got the death penalty because They (and their benefactor, former Governor Clements) wouldn't stop (or be more discrete) with throwing the "benefits" around.
This is 100% accurate.
