If they won the National Championship every year and were ranked higher than Yale academically, their opinion of themselves would still be too high. They're a prideful bunch. But, as we know, pride comes just before the fall. And, autumn is upon us.

Texas fans are no different than any other fan base regardless of what Aggy says.
Would love to have them in the SEC with OU

On another note ... I never thought I'd ever come across a program w more "t-shirt fans" (I believe y'all refer to em as "sidewalk fans?") than UTex has. Bama, however, has got the horns beat there. I'm not meaning to insult anyone (though I probably will); but I'll never understand the idea of being a fan of an institution of higher education from where one did not personally matriculate.
Can't speak for others:
My grandfather grew up watching Alabama play ball in the 20s. Even though I never went there, probably 50% of my family did. I see no reason not to cheer for them.

However they basically realized that they could use the revenue that football generates to continue to advance the university academically, even with the feud going with Perry.
Texas created the LHN for academic reasons?!

I can't believe people buy that B.S. Take a look at this.
Every year Forbes does a list of the 20 most valuable college football teams, making special note of teams that give significant portions of their football revenue to academics. Texas is number one, yet isn't noted for giving jack. On the other hand here are some noted SEC teams that made the list:
(6) Alabama:
quote:
The Crimson Tide have won two of the last three BCS championships, and the team will contend for yet another national title this January when it faces off against Notre Dame. Alabama also ranks among the biggest supporters of academic programming. The athletic department contributed more than $5 million back to university initiatives last year.
(7) Florida:
quote:
Florida's athletic department contributed a whopping $6.4 million to academic programming last year, and the athletic department has been responsible for $60 million in university contributions since 1990. Between that academic funding and football scholarships, the Gators directed more revenue to university spending than any other team on our list from a public university.
(9) Tennessee:
quote:
Tennessee's athletic department has traditionally contributed around $6 million annually to academic programs. Those payouts have halted, however, as the athletic department attempts to stabilize its budget and pay for former head coach Derek Dooley's contract buyout.
Even going back to 2011 Texas is still number one, but gives nothing significant back to academics while even South Carolina gave $4 million.

And you expect me to believe that the LHN was part of a plan to get more money to academics?
