It's hard to imagine SC in another conference. I guess because they were independent before joining and it seemed like the relationship with the ACC was never all that strong. Plus, you don't hear SC fans going on about those years. Probably mostly because they were so terrible.

Arkansas fans on the other hand, talk about the their days in the Big 8 all the time, so it's easy to imagine/remember them in another conference.

Might want to update that US map app.

Agreed though I'll say that Mizzou being added did make Arkansas seem more natural at least for me...just like how if we were to add UMass or someone farther north Mizzou would probably feel less foreign.

While Northern Florida is basically South Georgia the rest of it, including Tampa, is the demonic offspring of North Jersey and Havana with millions of Midwestern retirees awaiting their appointments with St Peter. There is nothing Southern about Florida as a whole.

This is sort of true, so long as you're not including Jacksonville.

nothing personal, but no, it does not. Even last night for a second on 'Super Tuesday' I'm thinking, 'why is Florida playing Missouri?'.

It'll change. Nobody did cartwheels over Arkansas and South Carolina 22 yrs ago, either.

What was one addition in CFB history that someone did cartwheels over?

I did cartwheels when Mizzou joined the SEC. I was so excited that I did one arm cartwheels, the most awesome of all cartwheels with exception to no arm cartwheels.

I would've done no arm cartwheels if Mizzou had joined the Big 10.

Well, let's see, Mizzou dominates UK in football and UK dominates Mizzou in basketball. Yep, you fit right in.

Actually, it has gotten to the point where Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and even Pensacola are majority Yankee now. Only the rural areas in the Panhandle near the Alabama and Georgia state lines are really Southern any more.

As for the OP. no Missouri does not feel like a natural fit. Missouri is a Midwestern state and its culture reflects that, although the southernmost reaches of it are kinda Southern. Arkansas is still Southern, even if it on the fringes of the South--no less so than Kentucky or Tennessee.

I don't think Mizzou is unwelcome in the SEC, but I think the Big Ten would have been a better fit. A&M is a somewhat better fit, but not as good of a fit as it is with the Big 12.

Missouri enjoys the underdog role. We've historically been the outsider and proud of it. We relish this role. We are most definitely our own kind of weird - neither northern or southern, neither east or west, not necessarily midwestern, neither free or shackled.

Missouri is responsible for the atomic destruction of Japan, the swift defeat of an early 20th century militant Islamic insurgency in southeast Asia using bullets dipped in pigs blood to prevent rebel martyrdom and access to Heaven, the site of the surrender of the Japanese to end WWII, as well as the burning of Lawrence, Kansas in response to redleg attacks and rapes within Missouri borders. Missourians don't frick around, especially when backed into a corner.

We are a unique breed of intensity and weird that is different from everyone else, and it should stay that way.

Call us the outpost. Call us ruffians. Call us the frozen tundra. Whatever. It won't take long for SEC teams to realize after a few beatings in Columbia that we'll never be a pushover. We're here to compete.

- frick Kansas.
