They have Bowers going to Buffalo
I could see him playing some 3-4 OLB. Idk why they thought he would play DE.
quote:
11. Texans: Robert Quinn, linebacker, North Carolina.
makes perfect sense
quote:
16. Jaguars: Christian Ponder, quarterback, Florida State.
I don't see how you can fault the pick. They need a QB. His stock has jumped to the 1st-2nd.
quote:
So a 3-4 OLB is going to play end in the 4-3 and a 4-3 end is going to play OLB in 3-4 to these guys? Wow.
yes. Houston is so much better in the 4-3 it's not even funny. He is awful in coverage.

Houston is built to play the 3-4 OLB spot. He doesn't fit Tampa's defensive philosophy. They value speedy, smaller linebackers. He would be ridiculously out of place there.
You clearly need to watch Justin Houston play, calling him an OLB is not only a misnomer, but an insult to actual 3-4 OLBs.
quote:
Quinn is not a 3-4 end. I've watched the guy since he and Carlos Dunlap were raping offensive lines at Fort Dorchester High School. Those guys were/are destined to be great 4-3 ends. Hell Dunlap quietly had 9.5 sacks last year.
No one is calling him a 3-4 DE, he would play OLB for a 3-4 team.

6'4 275-280 Robert Quinn will not be a 3-4 OLB. At least not a stud one. Guy is made for the 4-3 end spot. If you put him there and give him some decent help, you are looking at a guy who can be a solid-great starter for the next 12-13 years.

I don't think any QB in this draft has shown good pocket presence in college.
good point.

I know they think they absolutely have to take a quarterback first, but I don't like any of them in this draft.
I like the qb's in the draft just not in the top 10.

Weight can come off, and per the combine anyway, he's 6-4 265, a great size for OLB. Nick Saban wanted him at OLB, so I kinda side with him.
Hell, Tamba Hali plays at 275 and had a great season at OLB for the Chiefs...

Gabbert might turn out great but that game losing INT he threw in their bowl game was one of the dumbest throws EVER.

Yes it is. Ponder has some serious health issues and Locker's are even worse. Not to mention that Locker didn't produce for shite and you can blame your teammates all you want, but no quarterback worth his weight in dogshit would ever blame his receivers.
Ponder's elbow checked out all good.
Locker has no health issues idk where you're getting that.

he would play DE in Tampa.

3-4 OLB obviously.

They need to start drafting replacements for their aging defensive corps.
what spots? They've built pretty well on the d.line.
by no means am I saying Smith is a great WR but he is better DHB.

Could be. Maybe they should take a guy like Bowers or Fairley first, and then grab a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Or maybe they could trade down to #3 or #4, still get either Bowers or Fairley, and then get more picks in later rounds.

I was excited about Houston for the 34 DE, but he's always been suspect in coverage, and from what I understand he was atrocious in coverage at his own pro-day.

I agree. I only see two guys who can really play at a some what high level for the next decade or so: Gabbert and Mallett.

He's awful under pressure.
Posted on 3/23/11 at 8:36 pm to BayouBengals03
Lies again...... well kinda. Reports of him sucking under pressure are widely exaggerated. The guy can stand in the pocket and take a hit while delivering a bullet pass.

I don't need reports. I've seen it with my own eyes.
He's got Ryan Leaf written all over him, except for not as much hype.

I would definitely agree. the problem is they have no 2nd rounder and all the legit qb's will be gone by round 3,

I like Gabbert and Ponder. I do like Locker but he has so many ?

Depends on what they, and other teams, think of Andy Dalton.
Some are really high on him enough to give him a late 2nd-3rd grade, others see him as a 4th-5th Rd prospect...

agreed. However, I just think so many teams have a need someone will fall in love with him and take him late 2nd- early 3rd.
