I thought y'all were the most prepared state for hurricanes in the history of the world. How can y'all not have contraflow?

We're 60 miles inland too and we didn't take a direct hit either

If this thing were making landfall in Daytona and cutting across the state we wouldn't be having this conversation.

A category 3 is potentially going to pass within 50 miles of Gainesville......

Gainesville is on the outside of the cone. They will get rain and winds, but the worst of the damage will be well east of Gainesville. This is a strong and dangerous storm. But it is not going to be ripping through Gainesville. Bands of the storm are going to be in Gainesville, but the worst of it will not be at the University of Florida

For the love of all that is holy, this is irrelevant.

This was the Rita cone before LSU and UT rescheduled:

LSU officials did not want to play the game anywhere other than Baton Rouge after moving 2 other games that season. They suggested playing Sunday night in BR. Slive and the SEC overruled and said they should play Monday night. ALL of that had everything to do with logistics and very little, if anything, to do with the direct impacts of Rita on Baton Rouge.

If it stays on this path Gainesville will see sustained winds over 60mph and a ton of rain. It won't be pretty even into next weekend.

It's not a big deal they will be able to play a football game the next day.

The models are all over the place. Some models have it hitting the state, others have it far off the coast. We'll see when they start coming into agreement over the next several hours.

You have to admit it is truly amazing that they are still talking about a damn football game in Florida anywhere south of Tallahassee.....it's almost like they couldn't care less about the potential death and destruction but by God we are playing football.
