Yes but they also paid over 20 million in buyouts in order to sign Hermann. You need to do the complete math come on I know you’ve struggled with facts in the past

Winning what? Preseason championships?
He was hired to build a program, which he is doing. If he continues to win 10 games a year, then eventually he will probably break the glass ceiling ... everything is a gamble

Well he left LSU so apparently you couldn’t pay him enough to live in Baton Rouge.

Well when you are making $2.3 million in Baton Rouge and Wayne Huizenga offers you $5 million to live in Fort Lauderdale, who says no to that? Fortunately, for Bama, Ms. Terry hated it here and preferred to live somewhere that reminded her of her trashy West Virginia roots and Nicky was willing to take a $1 million paycut to accomodate her.

If she’s trashy I’d hate to see your wife

Was there any real threat of Jimbo leaving anytime soon? Kind of an odd time for an extension/raise if he hasn’t won anything significant yet.

Rumors have been circulating that LSU would make a run at Jimbo if they fired Ed O after this season and A&M isn't going to let that happen. Jimbo could leave for no buyout. A&M was simply unwilling to take that risk of Jimbo breaking through this year and then being lured away, that would be a disaster.

Most of all it's clear he is building a great program based on the Orange Bowl win and the recruiting going next level. He's also a perfect cultural fit at A&M, best since Jackie Sherrill and even better than RC Slocum. A&M has the money and is turning a MASSIVE profit that appears to be only going up as we are cranking out nearly 15k grads per year now. As much as A&M is making now it's likely to increase significantly in the next few years, ESPECIALLY if we actually win the SEC/NC.

The most expensive mistake a school can make is paying a little less for a lesser coach that you end up firing in a few years and paying a buyout to. It's possible of course that could happen with Jimbo but it's unlikely. A&M is also in a position that if that were to happen we could write that big check if need be and still hire a top flight coach. Money has benefits.

This was a good move by A&M. Fisher is one of the best coaches in the Country and having some sort of stability with the appropriate financial backing from the athletic department should set A&M up for success for a long time. Is it a gamble of course it is but Fisher is moving the A&M football program in the right direction. It would me amazing to capture lighting in a bottle similar to the 2019 LSU team but it starts with having the type of talent LSU/BAMA/Georgia have year over year and he is showing all signs of doing that.

Going 8-4 this year after this extension could also be described as a disaster, at least from a public perception perspective. Two sides to this coin.

Sure, there is risk. That said the odds of A&M going 8-4 this year are very small. That's also just a financial risk, A&M can buy their way out of it. Losing Jimbo to a school like LSU would be a disaster on multiple fronts. He would be extremely hard to replace. The hit to recruiting would be massive. The hit to the brand and perception would be horrific. You can't buy your way out of that. Fortune favors the bold and in the end A&M has more money than prestige right now. They are all in on Jimbo already so might as well throw some more cash in the pot.
