Don't take it personally. I think most just like the SEC the way it is.
After 20 years, it seems normal the way it is.
It would just be weird seeing Texas A&M vs OSU as an SEC game. Or A&M Carolina or whatever.
The SEC writes its own checks and breaks others' necks as is. There's no point in expansion, and there's a risk of watering down the product.

from a passionate about their sports standpoint, A&M very much fits in.
If you want to compare people, well... Texans tend to be different than the Deep South, but I don't know why that is an issue as we aren't THAT different.

I just don't understand why Texas A&M wants in the SEC so damn bad. We don't want change. Things are fine the way they are.

because the current Big 12-2 structure sucks dick, and we aren't afraid of a challenge, unlike the arrogant ones from the West.

Apparently not if an invite was actually extended to them in the last year.

You should know by now that what the majority of the fans want, and what the SEC office and Mike Slive want are rarely the same things.

Who else would move with them though? We're not going to have 7 and 6 division.
The rumor is SACS will make a particular institution ineligible to remain a member, creating a spot to fill.

If the SEC does expand I'm sure A&M is #1 on the list, I just don't know how the divisions would work out.
I think you would have to add Clemson/FSU/NC State possibly to the mix to make this happen.

True...but it doesn't really matter what the fans want. It's just like congress, the men in charge are going to do what they want.

LSU is out, A&M will replace LSU in the SEC after this probation announcement
LSU is looking for a new conference, possibly sun belt

A&M may make its move to the SEC this Thursday?

Texas is very different from the rest of the South. Texas is Texas first and always will be. Heck, they once were their own country and still take that mentality seriously. I think we would know since we played in a conference with them for over 75 years. Arkansas was ALWAYS an outsider to the Texas schools and people.
The SEC gives us a hard time but the know we fit in perfectly same history, culture and geography as the rest of the SEC.
Bottom Line: Texas A&M will NOT change conferences if they receive $18-20 Million a year, have an easier road to the BCS, keeps old rivalries, start the season in the top25 (you can't rank every SEC team), travel distances and recruit Texas.
Arkansas would LOVE to get back in to Houston area with recruiting. We used to have tons of players from Houston start on our SWC teams. Arkansas dominated Texas A&M in the SWC and would do it again in the SEC.
The farther the SEC expands west the better for Arkansas. It would put us smack in the middle of the SEC recruiting and Texas recruiting.

Little Rock, Ark is only 350 miles from 5 SEC schools. Our biggest fan base in-state is Central Arkansas. LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Alabama are all within 350 Miles of Little Rock.
The closest SEC school to College Station is LSU at 350 Miles. Meaning the alumni from Texas A&M that live in Houston or Dallas must travel much farther when Little Rock is MUCH closer. However, bring on Texas A&M and let Arkansas and LSU right into Texas big time. We are much closer to the rest of the SEC.
It won't happen.

Is this the summer of 2010? How many times during The Summer of Conference Expansion did we read that aTm was moving to the SEC in a matter of days?

I think there is somewhat of a Gentleman's agreement form UF, UGA, UK and SC to keep their rivals out. (those being GT, UL, Clemson and FSU)

I definitely support it if we can grab another solid team from a new market with you.

Quote from the above website. Pretty much sums up my thoughts on aggy.
"For those who haven't heard, rumors have begun to circulate again that A&M is heading to the SEC. BurntOrangeNation had a very well thought out article on the subject. As our readers should know by now, we don't do "well thought out" here at CRFF. We have a penis joke quota to meet.
So on the subject of A&M once again flirting with the SEC, my first question is this: Is this like the girlfriend that keeps threatening to break up with you as a cry for attention?
A&M: "I'm leaving, Big 12! Don't try to stop me! SEC is twice the man you'll ever be!"
Big 12: "Cool."
A&M: "I'm serious! Take me seriously! I'm walking out that door and I'm never coming back!"
Big 12: "Shut the door behind you, please."
A&M: "I don't think you get it. You're losing sooo much by letting me walk out this--"
Big 12: "For the love of God, are you leaving or aren't you?! I'm trying to play NCAA Football '12 over here and I can't focus with all your blabbering about "how great you are." Let me tell you something. You aren't. You talk big game before sex but when it's time to perform, you lay there like a log. You've never thanked me for helping you pay off all your debt. I have to listen to you bitch NON STOP about how big of a dick your ex, The University of Texas, is to you. Your nicknames for him are not creative. And for the record, your dog is gay."
A&M: **sobbing**
Big 12: "Save those tears for when SEC comes home at 2am after a fifth of Jack Daniels, ready to show the new girl how they do it down south."
We're just getting started. Click the jump.
First, can somebody even tell me why A&M wants to leave for the SEC? Are 6-6 records in the Big 12 not good enough? Do they have ambitions to go 3-9 every year to prove a point that they belong with "the big boys?" This is like some nerd joining a fraternity for the title even though his membership means 24 hour beatings and constant humiliation.
"Thanks for that wedgie, Alabama! I hope you laughed enough at my expense!" **pushes taped-up eye glasses back up his nose**
Second, are they really that pissed off at The University of Texas? Is this the mother of all temper tantrums? Look, if you want to step out of Texas' shadow, man up and stand your ground. Fleeing to another conference makes you look like a pussy. Flipping the bird while driving away makes you look like a coward. Having all male cheerleaders makes you look gay. Sorry, let's stay on track.
Finally, what does the move actually do for their school? Increase their academic prestige in comparison to the other SEC schools? Wow, there's something to hang your hat on.
"Congratulations to A&M for scoring the highest on the one-question quiz! Although your answer to the question "What does 2 + 2 equal?" was "5", it was still the best effort in the conference. The second best score goes to LSU who drooled on his answer sheet in the shape of the letter "L."
Will they get more exposure? Sure. But what good is that if you can't compete? Iowa State has been getting railed on regional/national TV for a decade now. Has that helped them at all?
Iowa State: "Nope. Hand me a beer."
More TV money? Probably so. But seriously, were they not getting a pretty sweet deal as it was in the Big 12? The ABC contract is up soon and with ESPN (sister to ABC) whoring themselves out to UT, I am fairly confident the entire conference will get more than its fair share as a result.
And please...please please please...do not tell me it has anything to do with expanding recruiting. Your school is in the state of TEXAS! It is the most fruitful recruiting region in the nation. If you can't get the players you need there then you might as well move to the Big East.
TCU: "Hey!"
Besides, Will Lyles has just as much success buying players for you in Texas as he would anywhere else. It's a wash!
The point is this. If A&M wants to leave, fine. Just get it over with already. We may have cared last year but now it's just getting old and looks desperate. Just don't be surprised when you come back knocked up and with a black eye to find that all the locks have been changed."

CFB is changing. The Big 12 absolutely will implode after one more school bolts or UT goes independent. It will be a feeding frenzy for the Texas market and someone is going to get it. It might as well be the SEC, which makes the most sense geographically, culturally, and financially. Some say aTm would not fit in the SEC. Where else would they fit? The Pac 12 or Big 10? Hell no.
This is an arms race my friend and you can't just stop and rest in a race simply because you are winning.

oh look an Okie State fan... one of the irrelevant 6...
You're still good people Gulf coast Poke... the fact of the matter is, no one at A&M wants the Big 12 so the little role play makes no sense.
Glad we live in their heads though.
See you on the 24th... come with a thirsty liver. You're more than welcome to post up with us and share stories on West Campus.
