The problem for A&M is the disconnect between their expectations and reality. Alabama has high expectations that match their reality. Therefore, their fans are content. Vandy has lower expectations and reality and are also content.

But the Aggies have top tier expectations but their reality is mediocre or average.

Based upon all time winning percentages from every school’s inception of football, the current SEC 14 schools can be organized into 7 two school brackets. This is a good averaging guide since good and bad times are considered with over a century of data.

The top two are Alabama and Tennessee, in that order.

Second Georgia and LSU currently in that order but historically they flip flop often.

Next is Auburn and Florida, and their order flips just like the second one.

Texas A&M comes in #7 in the 14 team SEC. This makes them slightly above average in the mediocre tier.

Now with Texas and Oklahoma coming aboard, this drops them to #9 in the 16 team SEC, or slightly below average and still mediocre.

If they lowered their expectations to match their reality, they would be happier. I’m not saying they should not try to improve their reality by blowing their money like drunken sailors, but they historically don’t and probably won’t.

They are so screwed.

Here is reality.

A&M can buy anything and can compete for any coach they want. Yes, College Station is a shite hole. But money is money.

Their donors don’t have much knowledge about hiring good coaches but eventually they will find a coach that will work.

They will just buy and sell until they do find their guy that works out.

It’s not hard. They suck. But eventually they will find a gem by accident.

You are likely right though. They don’t know what they are doing. Unless they get lucky.

I’ll bet a Coca Cola that they do not do the smart thing and hire an up and coming assistant and give them the time and support it’ll take to correct the mountain of issues that keeps them where they are and hire a name, like Kiffen, and allow their ego to tank that persons chances from day one. ATM has cultural issues that keep them at 7-5….not a coaching issues

You guys will eventually buy-out your cash stockpiles into oblivion.
OP is correct, these guys seem to think they are some sort of elite program, but they have accomplished nothing in the last 70+ years to support this idea

Wouldn't it be easier to buy some SEC officials? It's gotta be cheaper.
