I'm not as optimistic as the others on here. History tells us aTm will be above the MS schools but hat's about it. aTm has to figure out a way to leverage its resources better, but they've been a wealthy school for a very long time and still haven't done it. Maybe their weirdness is what is holding them back.

I think you will be Arkansas. Maybe get to 3rd or 2nd some years but generally you always be the bridesmaid, never the bride. At least as long as Saban and Miles stay.

I think that consistent number three after a few years. however I think TAMU stands a great chance to take over if we get serious. There was a time when we took LSU to the woodshed. However that was a long time ago. I guess well all see if Sumlin is serious

I think Arkansas/Auburn/aTm will be in the next tier just below LSU/Bama. Any of those teams will be capable of pulling the upset, but will not happen as much as we'd like.

A&M just needs to tread water through 2012. If they can get 3 or 4 wins in the SEC (somehow), that'll go a long way towards recruiting I think. But it's hard to imagine a new coach with a new QB will be able to do such a thing without a lot of breaks going his way.

Well, five years in today's college football is an eternity. It's hard to say what the SEC landscape in general will look like then from a coaching standpoint. That could include A&M- but then again...

My opinion is that they will surprise many in that they will offer some better competition than expected. It will be a rough couple of years starting out- but A&M is now an SEC school. That in itself will help them in recruiting. I would EXPECT them to be pushing Arkansas within 5 years.
I don't get those dismissing this possibility. Texas A&M is a major program with a lot of resources- more than some SEC programs, for sure. They will be a good fit, IMHO.

A&M has potential to be good but they need to learn to play Defense.

It is what it is....

Seriously though, I see you fitting in as 4th in the West behind LSU/Bama/Ark (as long as Petrino is there)...

It was not that long ago A&M was a really good team every year. I don't see why with the right coach, they can't return to being a power.

In the 2nd year of the coach you hire after firing Sumlin after his 3rd year. I expect you'll get someone with a better understanding of what it takes to win in the SEC for that one. If not you'll be talking about how that guy needs to turn it around because you're a better program than 5th in the west.

the SEC West is more settled in its pecking order than the East. A&M should except nothing less than 5th ahead of OM & MSU, and could expect to displace Auburn @ 4th because of their recent upheavals. Challenging Arkansas for the 3rd place should be the short term (<5yr) goal.

good luck on the 2012 Egg Bowl Trophy.

A&M has all the potential to be a power in football. Too bad your administration is not apt enough to make it happen.
