What playbook? I'm speaking from personal experience. I've never met an A&M alum who didn't tell me that he/she could have gone to UT but chose not to. Or didn't apply. It's a strange phenomenon.

Happens quite a bit actually. I have a good friend who was an academic recruiter for LSU all over the South for years, but for about 5 years he was based solely in Houston.
It's a fact the majority of LSU out of state students come from the Houston area.
It's also widely assumed by some arrogant Texans that going to LSU means you can't get into UT or aggy. After many conversations with my friend about it and seeing the figures LSU provided him myself, I can honestly say that assumption is patently false. LSU admissions does its research on prospective students in the Houston area and how they make their decisions. It mostly involved a&m and not UT.
There are a lot of reasons a Texan may choose to leave the state for school. Specifically with regard to LSU students, not being able to get in to UT or aggy applied to some, but not the majority as some smug, haughty posters would have you believe.

To be fair, so are A&M fans with all this talk of State bragging rights; bogus contract talk; attacks on Cajuns; money; LSU's academic, not athletic, budget issues; educational superiority, etc.
