I don't think Tennessee fans are QUITE as excited as you make them out to be. I think they are happy, but if they go 10-2, lose in Atlanta and then win the Citrus Bowl they'll be content, but they won't be screaming off the rooftops.
If they'd beaten A&M or Alabama, or eventually beat the West champ in Atlanta, they will be (and rightfully so).

What I got from OP was a program right before their decade-long decline has a lot different expectations than a program on the other side of it.
I bet LSU fans in 2026 would love to have a Butch.

Yes this and it is that time of year when LSU fans project anger towards Tennessee because they can't beat Alabama.
