Yes. While the video in the OP was as lame as the Mullen sermon ones, I did enjoy the documentary footage in it. Never seen it before and it portrayed how bad it really was back then.

It's pretty shocking that you're still alive, to be frank.

I will say this about a positive aspect of race and Oxford. They don't have and never started a private school there. I commend both the city of Oxford and Lafayette for sticking by their public schools over the years.

Pretty much the same for all of North Ms... Public schools are much nicer up there.
Private schools are mostly a Delta thing.... and it will never change. It's not so much racism as it's just the better interests of the kids.
For example, in Indianola, the academy has graduating classes of around 25 to 35 kids. At Gentry High, it's a 4A public school, and has classes of over 100. And fact is, majority of those black kids wouldn't be very friendly to 15 rich farm boys and 15 good looking white girls. Sure there are some good ones, but also a lot of trashy ones, and the parents fear for their kids.
Delta towns have a larger amount of black kids than white kids (with exception to cleveland, and Cleveland high is about 50/50, best public school in delta). In other parts of MS, the diversity is more equal and allows people to mingle better. In the Delta, a white kid will get jumped and beaten by black kids. Just how it is there, also the public schools in the delta are run down and shitty as far as education goes, so there is really no upside to sending your kids there.
There are also a few black kids who go to private schools, for the same reasons. Better education, better environment. And not once have I ever seen one treated poorly or prejudiced against by the white kids. We had 4 or 5 when I was at Indianola Academy. They were all pretty good kids.

Eh, I really think it's a chicken vs. the egg type of situation.

It's just the way it is... while a few refuse to send their kids there for racist reasons, most do it because they have no choice because of the previous few. Like I said, a few white kids surrounded by a bunch of black kids wouldn't end well. No matter what people say, blacks are just as racist, if not more hateful, towards white people.
My parents would have loved to have a good public school in the Delta to send me to and save 4,500 a year on tuition. Hell private school tuition is higher than tuition at MSU. There just isn't that option in the Delta
