1942 UGA: 11-1, SEC Champion, Heisman Trophy winner, 33.6 OPPG, 6.9 DPPG, Rose Bowl champ

1942 Ohio St.: 9-1, Western Champion, 33.7 OPPG, 11.4 DPPG, no bowl

There were 4 bowl games in 1942. The Rose Bowl alliance with the Big 10 didn't start until 1947. The Big 10 didn't send any of their teams to bowl games in 1942. In fact, the Big 10, as a conference, didn't play in bowl games from 1922 through 1945. It was an agreement amongst their college presidents. And even when they repealed that rule and entered into an agreement with the Rose Bowl, they would not send the same team to the Rose Bowl in back to back years. That rule remained in place until 1971. If bowl games had any bearing on anything back then, the Big 10 would have participated in them.

also, Georgia lost to 6-4 Auburn. Ohio St lost to #3 Wisconsin.

You're really hung up on the bowl thing.

because you keep thinking what happened during bowl season in the 40s is a relevant data point. It's not

A lot of national championship-winning programs didn’t play in bowls back in the day. Ohio State is the lone champion in 1942.

Hey, that's how Bama won most of its titles. Can't disagree.

This has been said numerous times, but you bunch of tard asses don't seem to get it, but here it is one more time...

Whatever standard you apply to Alabama for it's national championships has to be applied to all schools. Whatever you standard you want to go with, the outcome remains the same- BAMA has more national championships. So go ahead and bitch, moan, and cry yourself to sleep tonight, but BAMA will still have more championships than your school of choice. BAMA is the undisputed King of college football. Deal with it.

What's funny is UGA didn't even start claiming it until decades later.

In their fourth season under head coach Wally Butts, the Bulldogs compiled an 11–1 record, shut out six of twelve opponents (including a 34–0 victory over No. 2 Georgia Tech), won the SEC championship, and outscored all opponents by a total of 378 to 73.The Bulldogs' 75–0 win over Florida remains the largest margin of victory in the history of the Florida–Georgia football rivalry.

All of that above is why they should have been recognized by AP as NCs. Their resume , without the bowl game, was superior to Ohio States. B10 and northern media bias common during that era is why AP screwed UGA. The 8 other polls got it right.

bullshite. You finished 2nd, deal with it.

It's funny you are pretending like Florida was some big team before Spurrier.

But since you want to brag about them, the reality is Florida was 3-7 in 1942, and 1-3 in the SEC with their only win being against a 6-4 Auburn team.

That 6-4 Auburn beat #1 Georgia by 14 points @ Georgia in the 2nd to last game of the year.

Ohio St had 1 loss on the year, and that was to a top 5 team much earlier in the season.

Georgia was #1 and you lost. It's not bias, that's just how shite worked.

Wrong. Finished 1st in 8 of the other qualifying polls. Banner hung. Forever the 1942 NC.

Tournaments rarely determine best team. They may determine hottest team at the moment but we see it all the time in professional football. The best team doesn’t always win. All it takes is one off day and you go home. Baseball if any sport has the truest way to determine BEST team because you don’t get to beat them one time it’s best out of 5/7.
