re: A bizarre TRO Request

Jeez - not sure what to make of this.

As it stands now - he is on the depth chart and has a court order that lets him practice -but I don't think it applies to games. I think Mizzou did plan on playing him until the SEC rule and the LSU players case came up. I don't personally agree with anyone who has been paid by an NFL team, even if they pay it back, playing in CFB. But, I'm just a fan and very minor donor (heavy emphasis on the very minor part). I think Mizzou just wants as much clarity as they can get - weird that a suit against the University may help with that.

Even still - there are 9 possible outcomes with the 2 court cases..

1) If the SEC prevails and Webb loses - He almost certainly won't play.

2) If the SEC loses and Webb prevails - Both orders would be in place and I think he plays.

3) If the SEC loses and Webb loses - well then we have some muddy water. Mizzou should be able to let him play if they choose (the SEC said to follow the court orders) - but technically Webb is not party to the Louisiana matter, so does this apply to Webb? Especially if he has pursued his own case and lost? I think they would let him play because I think the SEC rule will not be in effect until the Louisiana matter is settled and I don't think the SEC will let different teams play by different rules- but it is a gray area for sure and this is the SEC.

4) If the SEC prevails and Webb prevails - Mizzou will be in a tight spot. They could be subject to SEC penalties if they let him play, and in violation of the new order from his case. I know the SEC says to follow court orders - but does that just include court orders involving the conference? - or does that also include court orders involving individual members?


Then what happens if one case settles and the other is continued for some reason? Given Mizzou plays Thursday - it is unlikely they would have time for legal action to get clarity.

5) Webb prevails - SEC case is continued - He plays as both orders would be in place. similar to #2

6) Webb loses - SEC case is continued - similar to #3

7) SEC prevails - Webb case is continued - similar to #1, but Mizzou is more exposed to suit from Webb if he ultimately wins

8) SEC loses - Webb case is continued - similar to #3

and then....

9) Both continued (chaos) - but he probably plays

Even though I think Webb helps our Defensive outlook - I'm honestly hoping the SEC wins their case, Webb loses his - and we start playing football without all this nonsense hanging over it.
