State and Ole Miss were both Preseason Top 5 teams and both probably wouldn't be in the NCAAT if the season ended today. That series in Oxford this weekend has far different implications than anyone expected. Winner has a chance to climb back into the 2 or 3 seed mix eventually, loser is really in a bind.

Going into SEC play we were 10-6 with an RPI in the 200s. We lost a series to Penn and a tourney with losses to Washington St and Wichita St. Averaging only 5.6 runs per game.
Since then we've swept the midweek games @Rice, Texas St, @tu, @A&MCC then went 3-2 in SEC series with series wins over @Lsu, UK, & @UGA. Averaging 8.2 runs per game vs much better competition.
We're taking baby steps here after a miserable 2021.

Alabama is 2-8 vs the RPI Top 13 (1-6 on the road, 1-2 at home) and 21-6 vs RPI 14+.
But whatever, after the last few years nobody really respects us. Understandable.
