I would put money on 2008 Utah to beat 2007 Kentucky...
But yea, talent wise LSU was far superior.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 2008 Utah team beat the 2007 LSU team. That LSU team got a lot of breaks to end up in that game. Honestly they, and most teams in the country, were a bit down that season.
LSU may be the better team, but I don't think the gap is big enough to be considered unreasonable.

I agree, I didn't want to be first to say it though.

Wrong. The whole season everyone was going on about how deep the field was that year. They were calling it one of the most competitive years.
Last year was definitely considered a down year by the SEC with 2008 Florida being the only team who could have competed at the top in the 2007 field. The 2007 field would have beat the shite out of the 2008 teams. Go back and look at them and think about how strong they were that year.

I see you omitted Kentucky and Arkansas from that list.

2007 was one of only two years since the year 2000 (with 2002 being the other) that both teams in the SEC Championship Game had at least two losses. Tennessee won the east that year after losing to Cal by three touchdowns, Florida by 39, and Alabama by 24. Alabama sucked in 2007 finishing 7-6, Ole Miss still sucked, Auburn was slightly above average, Georgia was starting a freshman QB, and Florida lost five games. Yeah, 2007 was stout.

Yea, and only one of them was from 2007. 2008 Utah was just as impressive in their bowl game.

+1
Arkansas wasn't even ranked when they beat LSU in 2007.
And I was referring to teams nationally, not just the SEC. I mean come on, USC lost to Stanford. Weird things happened.

I don't think Utah was better, but they were a lot better than most people think.

Thats means nothing in the argument.
LSU
AU
UT
UGA
UK
USC(only debatable one IMO)
MSU
Arkansas
were all better in the SEC in 2007. We are also leaving out Vandy who is typically irrelevant. UF was still a good team in 2007.
I think the Big 12 might be the only conference you can argue was maybe stronger in 2008 than 2007.

I never saw the 2008 Utah team play, but I did see the 2007 LSU team and they were very tough!

Down year, IMHO.

2007 was possibly the wackiest year in college football history. I mean KU going 12-1!

Um, whats so crazy about this statement?
Utah beat the shite out of an almost unbeaten Bama team. The score was closer than the game was. LSU lost to two unranked teams.
Not nearly as bold a statement as LSU fans are making it out to be.

If 07 LSU is playing 08 Utah in a bowl game and both teams are well rested and healthy, LSU very likely wins this game by 10 or so. When we were on our game we blew out the ACC and Big Ten champs. I'm pretty sure we can handle the best that the mighty Mountain West has to offer.
If some of you wanna conveniently use our two losses to judge us last year and ignore every other game we played then go ahead. There's no point in arguing with you.
08 Utah played a grand total of two games against BCS teams in the regular season and barely squeaked by both. Michigan finished 3-9 and Oregon St. 9-4. If you wanna assume that Utah could have played an entire SEC schedule and go on to win the SEC Championship and finish better than 11-2 like we did, hey, more power to you. But I couldn't disagree with you more.
