I was at that game, it goes down as one of my most disappointing ever Gator games. Leading 28-6 the Gators emptied the bench and after a pick 6 and another turnover that Rutgers followed with a score it was too late for the returning starters to stop the bleeding. Rutgers scored late and made a 2 point conversion to tie the game at 28-28. That game and the choke at Doke tie with FSUcks are a couple of my worse memories as a Gator. The 2009 loss to Bama in the SECCG that cost UF another Natty is also included in my list.

True but they were leveled by a "pretty good" Georgia team, 24-3. IMO they weren't as good as the 1984 team. Yes,they beat Miami who beat Oklahoma, but still.

Florida-Miami must have been a tremendous rivalry back then. Like what FSU-Miami become later

really surprised ESPNU or another ESPN network hasn't shown that 1984 game. The storylines were amazing. First of all,it was ESPN's first ever live telecast of D-1 college football game. The game was in Tampa where Super Bowl XVIII had been played 7 months earlier. Miami was the defending national champ and Florida had just had its first ever top 10 finish.
Florida led 20-19 late in the game but Miami scored to go up 26-20 with :06 left. On the last play of the game Miami ran back a pick 6 for the misleading 32-20 final.
Florida and Miami did have a good rivalry but it never resonated on the national lever really until this game. Now, between the two of them it was huge in the Sunshine State with major disdain. Google "Florida Flop" sometime.
