I actually have the opposite thought. Instead of adding one game, reduce it one game. Have a nine game conference schedule with two games against Power 5 competition. Expand the CFB Playoff to eight teams with five conference champions, the highest ranked G5 champion, and two at-large bids. If you reduce one regular season game and add one playoff game, the number of games will stay the same. Plus a format with the Power 5 conference champions, the highest ranked G5 champion and two at-large bids would satisfy pretty much everybody. Ohio State and Alabama both would have made the Playoff last year under that scenario. Same thing with Ohio State and Penn State the year before. There would be way fewer complaints about who deserves to get in or not and everybody would be happy.
