If any coach is going to get their team to do it on a regular enough basis to make a difference, he might want to make sure his players are good actors. A team full of Swain's may get a coach in some hot water.

Deliberately teaching players to violate the rules is indefensible. The
coaching of intentional holding, beating the ball, illegal shifting, feigning
injury, interference, illegal forward passing or intentional roughing will break
down rather than aid in the building of the character of players. Such instruction
is not only unfair to one’s opponent but is demoralizing to the players entrusted
to a coach’s care and has no place in a game that is an integral part of an
educational program.

Good luck proving players aren't hurt at the moment though.

We expect to hear lots more ideas from Saban in the future about increasing player safety. Bert too.

Saban and Bert are stupid little girls

Right. They can prove it when the player comes back in 2 plays later.

quote:Yeah, they won't be able to do that. They will either take a coach to task (suspension) if the coach's team does it too much or they will create some sort of rule with a mandatory number of plays an injured player must sit out before he can return to the game. You can't reasonably ask refs to try to differentiate legit injuries from fake.

Agreed. I don't think they will challenge injuries or try to assign motives, suspend coaches, etc. It seems the only way they could realistically address would be to discourage it by requiring players to sit out more plays. That would be a pretty controversial rule to push through to say the least.

If a player comes out for an injury, he will have to sit out at least 3 plays. Player safety issue.

yea. controversy all around
but at the end of the day, don't see how they could prove if a player is faking or not. they'd never pass a rule forcing a player to sit out 'x' amount of playstoo.
your star QB legitimately gets dinged up from roughing the passer on a crucial set of downs and comes out of the game. decides he feels good enough to go back in the next play but can't because of the sit out rule. your team loses.

I think it would have to be more than 3 plays to be a deterrent.

Do tell everyone how, exactly, will they be able to prove it.

yea lets put a roughing the passer bounty on the head of a teams QB in the hope he has to leave the game during crunch time to force him to sit out 'x' amount of plays

quote:Don't need to. Players that are faking are punished because they are healthy but not allowed to play. Players with legitimate injuries are given sufficient time to be evaluated by training staff and treated before those brutal coaches make them go back into the game and play 4 or 5 plays in a row without a timeout.
don't see how they could prove if a player is faking or not.
