Take their whole staff including head coach with crooked nose.
Great special teams and defense.

If things don't work out with Hugh bring in JMU staff lol

I'm alright with that. They ended NDSU's playoff winning streak.

Probably could have and should have gotten him for less.

Why?

He's already taking less than most OC in the league.

You're asking why we would pay someone less if we could?

Hell, we could pay him the same as he makes now at SHSU and he should be grateful since he is getting a chance to play in the majors.

We should just get used to the fact that our football program is being run like a charity.

Wth are you talking about?

If a bigger company comes to you tomorrow and says we are offering you a position here but you will make the same pay...are you taking the gig? Hell no.

The guy is a good coach. Why would we short change him? Like I said compared to SEC coaches he isn't making all that much.

It kills me that Freeze believes this guy is the guy that can get us to the next level and we got fans trying to save pennies. Same fans would have been willing to give another coach 2 mill to be a OC.

Let the man do his damn job. Freeze is aware what is at stake.

If I'm being paid X at a Silverstein Copperberg (SHSU), with very little room for growth in terms of salaries and bonuses and career opportunities, and Goldman Sachs (Ole Miss) comes along and offers to pay me X, the same as Silverstein Copperberg, with the understanding that the next year, depending on performance, my salary very well could be doubled, the bonuses could be increased substantially (because Goldman Sachs has more resources) and I also have the name Goldman Sachs on my resume, which is better recognized and more respected. Not to mention, at Goldman Sachs I'll get better work experience, training, and will meet more powerful people, all of which I can leverage for a better career trajectory. Which one do you think I would take?

What is the market? It's not short changing him. We are taking a much larger risk on him than he is taking on us. Let's for a second say that the NCAA gives us the death penalty, this guy is out of job, but gets to say: "An SEC team thought I was good enough to take them to the SEC Championship." He can leverage that for an FBS coaching job. Either way, he now has more upwards mobility than he did if he had stayed at SHSU.

Also, were we competing with other SEC schools for him? No, so the amount other SEC schools pay their coaches is irrelevant until this guy proves next year that he is worth it. If Longo kicks arse and shows he is worthy of being an SEC coordinator, then you can start paying him comparably to the other SEC coaches to avoid him being poached.

It's not saving pennies, its saving thousands that can allocated elsewhere.

This has more to do with Bjork.

Look, I want Longo to succeed. I desperately want to eat crow and be wrong about him, because I want Ole Miss to win. But this isn't about Longo being right for the job or not. This is about seemingly poor management, you weren't in a bidding war with other schools to get him, certainly not SEC schools, so you tell the man "I believe in you, we're going to give it a go, we're willing to pay you this much, but know that if you succeed, this will go up substantially." This is a meritocracy and a business, not a charity.

If he made any less he would be making less than Luke as the man in charge...

Now this is a much better argument than this

You are right about him making less than Luke being strange though. My main point is, theoretically, Longo should be happy if we paid him the same as SHSU paid him because of all the factors I mentioned earlier.

On another note. Why is Batoon still on staff and should Freeze's pay be reduced?

Aren't you the one that thinks we should be paying the 7th highest salary in the country for a SC guy? OC position is a little more important and 600k is a bargain.
