I, too, am a Cubs fan. It's a great day and hopefully we can come through on one of Bowden's hunches (Upton or Kemp).

I would be jovial with Longoria or CarGo too.

Go Cubs! This is a huge signing. We have a true ace now. He's won 15 games every year since '08 and the Cubbies haven't had anyone win 15 in a season since 2010. That's 4 freaking seasons.. Even the Shark couldn't do it. This speeds the process up so much. Next year with Bryant surely being called up, possibly with Jorge Soler, the Cubs are now showing signs of a contented. If we can get one or 2 more pieces like a big bat (Kemp or Upton as you said) and another solid #2 arm during/after this next year……watch out NL Central.

I've always seen Longoria as a Cub. He fits the jersey.

I hate the cubs but nice addition of Maddon and Lester. I kind of miss the way the rivalry was in 03 and 04 when both the Cards and Cubs were good. It wont be the same since Tony LaRussa and dusty Baker are no longer at each others throats though.

No way we get Longo after the hometown discount he took in Tampa. I was thinking we might grab CarGo yesterday though. Lets just throw in Castro and take both of their disgruntled stars

A lineup of:

CF Alcantara
SS Tulowitzki
LF Gonzalez
1B Rizzo
3B Bryant
RF Soler
C Montero
2B Baez

Those were great times! Loved baseball during that time. Most people might not admit this, but the Cubs being relevant again is good for baseball in general and GREAT for the Cubs-Cards rivalry.

Hopefully the rivalry will be re-born this year. I think it starts with the opening series (Wainright vs. Lester)! Can't wait!

One can only dream on Tulo!

I think they go:

CF Alcantara
2B Baez
SS Castro
1B Rizzo
LF Soler
C Montero
RF Gomes
3B Valbuena

I think Baez and Valbuena can switch spots in the lineup as well as Soler and Gomes. And of course once Bryant comes up, I think he slides into the 4th or 5th spot.

Lester will start getting rocked once his velocity dips to 87-89

I'm not so sure. He won't be as effective, obviously, but he commands his pitches really well to both sides of the plate and has a nasty cutter that will always be a factor in his overall repertoire. I love the signing for who he is and what he could do for this team in the NL (I think that part tends to get overlooked).

I like the signing. Not really a Cubs fan but wouldn't mind seeing them compete in the Central. I've told people that Epstein will eventually make it work in Chicago if they'll be patient
