Can we talk about the onside kick?

Now that we’ve had 12 hrs to celebrate, it’s time to talk about possibly the dumbest coaching frickup I have ever seen.
During the long review timeout, the sky cam broadcast showed Joe Judge (a former NFL special teams coach) consulting with the officials - presumably double checking all the contingencies around timing and advancing an onside kick.
Despite that, ole miss players just stood around instead of touching the kick before it went 10 yards. ANY TOUCHING OF THE BALL BY OLE MISS WOULD HAVE STARTED THE CLOCK AND ENDED THE GAME. you can’t advance an onside kick so there was literally 0% chance for UGA to score. Instead we had to sit through 30 seconds of laterals with a very low, but still non zero chance of success.
The end of the first half was bad, but that is on Wright for not going out of bounds. End of game was completely on the coaches. Hope Pete and Joe learn from it.

Yes he should have told someone to fall on it or bat it out of bounds. Dawgs could not advance the football without Ole Miss full possession and then a fumble. Learn from that one.

That's a scenario you only see once every decade. That's a scenario the special teams coordinator should have coached them up on. Special teams have been solid all year besides that miscue.

...and staying in bounds at the end of the half. And we gave up a scoop and score. We really tried to lose this one.

with 1 second left and the onside kick i explained to my wife that there was literally no way as in a 0% chance we lose the game at that point.
I was proven wrong by OM once again lol

I was honestly expecting all those laterals to somehow lead to UGA scoring in the biggest WAOM moment ever.
