Yeah that was my point. In December they could have looked and said hey you need this many credits to be eligible to play. This is what you have to do.

If it was about credits why the heck would he even be wasting his time trying to qualify for this year if it isn't mathematically possible???

Didn't say it was mathematically impossible....just mathematically unlikely.

You get more credits the higher letter grade you get. I was never told the exact number he needs but he might have needed all A's during spring and summer to get the necessary credit hours.

No you get the same amount of credits regardless of what grade you make as long as you pass

Letter grade only affects your GPA

When I was in school a few years ago they broke down on our transcript something like credit hours vs. quality credit hours(wording might be different).

Basically, you'd get 3(or 4?) credit hours for a normal class but your QCH would depend on the letter grade you got. An A would obviously get you the highest number of QCHs and it would go down per letter grade.

though what the guy could have been referring to is instead of them saying you need X.XX GPA this year, you need XX quality credit hours as it relates to your GPA.

Only thing I could find in the Student-Athlete handbook was this..

quote:

NCAA ELIGIBILITY STANDARDS
The NCAA has the following standards for continuing eligibility and satisfactory progress:
Semester of
Enrollment
NCAA Continuing Eligibility & Satisfactory Progress Requirements
1st Sem Must be certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center
3rd Sem
• 24 semester credits
• 18 credits earned during academic year
• 90% of gpa for graduation (1.80)
• Six degree credits/term
• A maximum of six semester hours of remedial courses may be used in the first
year
5th Sem
• 40% of degree requirements
• 18 credits earned during academic year
• 95% of gpa for graduation (1.90)
• Six degree credits/term
• Declaration of degree program
7th Sem
• 60% of degree requirements
• 18 credits earned during academic year
• 100% of gpa for graduation (2.00)
• Six degree credits/term
9th Sem
• 80% of degree requirements
• 18 credits earned during academic year
• 100% of gpa for graduation (2.00)
• Six degree credits/term

I know what you are talking about and that is just another way to display gpa. You get like 4 points for an A 3 for a B etc. then divided by the total number of points attempted.
