NWS Norman
@NWSNorman

Rain & storm chances return to portions
of western and northern Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon into evening.

Chances increase to 50-70% Tuesday night and shift toward the I-44 corridor on Wednesday into Wednesday night, with lower chances through Friday.

With the return of rain chances on Tuesday afternoon, there is a risk of severe storms. The current risk area extends across portions of northwest and western Oklahoma. Rain chances (above) and severe risk (below) will change in the coming days. Check back!

We'll be in the 90's in West Tennessee for most of the week. It's been really dry for a month and a half. I finally gave up on the yard, but it's October and the grass should be slowing down.

Btw, my daughter is working on a book about tornados. She's a PhD in History, and her time in Oklahoma was formative for her. Most people approach it from the scientific angle, but the history is fascinating.

NWS Norman
@NWSNorman

Potential for heavy rain and flooding continues to increase Wednesday and Thursday, especially in areas in orange where multiple rounds of heavy thunderstorms could lead to localized totals of 3-6" by the time things taper off Thursday evening

By golly they all finally got one right

Oklahoma Mesonet
@okmesonet

We've already had widespread flooding from western into central Oklahoma, so expect more as we see several more rounds of heavy rain through the next 24-48 hours.

Below is additional rain not counting what already fell

Flash flood Warnings have been extended until 11:30AM in the OKC metro. Heavy rainfall will continue to fall the next few hours, which will cause additional flooding in many areas

Beating Texas was our drought buster

Oklahoma Mesonet
@okmesonet

As of 9:20 am this morning, the 8.04'' of rainfall measured at the Elk City Mesonet site in the last 12 hours is more than this location had measured in the previous 6 months combined. Absolutely crazy rainfall totals so far during this event.

Most rain in 2 years!!

NWS Norman
@NWSNorman

We've surpassed today's daily rainfall record at OKC with 3.51 inches of rain so far (and more than half the day still to go). The previous record was 2.45 inches set in 1956. This is also the most rain we've had in a single day in over 2 years.

Oklahoma City ends up with 5.59" of rain yesterday (10/14). This is the 2nd highest precip total on record for the month of October since 1890, and the highest in 100 years. An additional 0.72" has fallen since midnite, making the event total 6.31".
