Young professional moving to Mobile AL

Guys, I'm moving from God's Country (Oxford) to Mobile AL in the next month. Gotta a way better gig than what I'm doing in Oxford now. Can anyone point me in the direction to live? Best apartment communities for someone like me. I'm a 24 year old guy who graduated from Ole Miss a year ago.

Live in Spanish Fort/Daphne and commute the small distance.

A nice little town on the outskirts of Mobile known as Prichard.

My friend lived on Midtown, which seemed like the place to be for a young professional. Walking/biking distance to many bars and restaurants. He moved away a few years ago and I haven't been down there since, so not sure if it's still the place to be.
He hated Mobile. He said if you aren't from there, it's hard to make connections. Very cliquish town, according to him. Makes sense though. Everyone I knew in college from Mobile, moved back there after graduating.
Not to piss in your Cheerios. Your experience may be comletely different than his.

I've heard that midtown can be fun. I've also been told to stick to west Mobile or live across the bay in Daphne/Spanish Fort.
I can get that in a way though. I was in Mobile last summer interning at the place where I'm going back too. I just never got to know anyone or found anything to do.

Yeah, I'll definitely hit up Prichard. I mean sub $300/month apartments, why not.

OP, if you want to live in Mobile, I'd live somewhere in Midtown. If you're okay with a small commute, live across the Bay. West Mobile, while starting to get younger, is still mostly families.
And remember if you go to the beach with some of your new Mobile friends or co-workers, it's the gulf...not the ocean

Unless you want to sit in a an hour of traffic every day you shouldnt live across the bay.

I get that. I'll be working for a regional accounting firm and do have an in. Not in Mobile but within the company. With that being said I still intend to work my arse off and prove myself.
The nicer apartments seem to be in West Mobile compared to downtown. It would be nice to be around the younger crowd and kind of figure the place out that way.
I'm not from the coast but it drives me nuts when people say it's the ocean. Some of us weren't blessed enough to understand geography.

Yeah, I thought about that. Last year I went to Orange Beach a lot after work to visit friends on vacation and that traffic on the bridge was god awful.

Plus, traffic between downtown and West Mobile sucks.
I would go with Midtown or Downtown.

It does seem more family based there. I just want something safe and nice for a year or two when I decide to buy something.

If you plan on being there more than a year, do yourself a favor and join either Mystics of Time or Mystic Striper Society. Good way to meet folks and get involved with their parades/balls.

But seriously, get a house in Midtown. The apartment complexes are about the same price and aren't that nice. Do not live north of Springhill ave. or south of Government St.

I can't seem to find anything nice online house wise. And a lot of what I have found doesn't include appliances. I can deal with washer/dryer not included but buying a stove, fridge etc... just seems a bit much. I'll be down there this weekend to begin my search other than browsing the web.
