Was thinking about the differences between Men’s and Women’s sports today. As we all know the NBA is far more superior to the WNBA. Athletically, financially, and fan support wise. A lot of this has to do with how male athletes are bigger, faster, and stronger than their female counterparts.

All of this is being said to ask, what is the lowest level of men’s basketball that you think could beat a WNBA team? Could a elite High School Boys team beat a WNBA team? Could a Rant all star team?

I don't even think "elite" would need to be mentioned here, I think many "really good" state champion level teams could do it.

I've shared this many times and will here again. When I was at UGA the womens team under Landers was pretty darn good and at the time was ranked around top 10ish in teh country. The staff would to go Ramsey and pick out dudes playing pick up ball and ask if they wanted to form kind of a practice squad to scrimmage the womens team in practice. They wouldn't just pick joe schmos of course, it was dudes that had some skills. A good buddy of mine from high school was one such person, he was the ~7th man on our HS basketball team. Typical coaches son; fundamentally sound, good ball handler, great passer, never really looked to score. He said the rest of the practice squad was made up of former HS players that never did anythign after that and simply went ot UGA for school and moved on with themselves. Anyways...after their first scrimmage I asked how bad they got beat and he couldn't contain his laughter. He said the difference between men adn women is just so, SO night and day that they could essentially name the score if they wanted. Keep in mind this wasn't some former McD AA or something. he said they were faster, more athletic, longer, more physical, better shooters, you name it they were better. He said they basically ran the floor against the women every scrimmage.

Now that was college aged males (although that hadn't played organized ball in who knows how long) agianst a top 10 nationally ranekd college aged womens team. So yes I'm sure WNBA players are at the top of the food chain there and older and more experienced, but I do think a really good HS team could beat them.

I think the high ginger count on tRant means lower than average talent pool

Genetically most women are lower than the men but over time this will continue to narrow. The game the women play is more like the game the men played in the infancy of MBB. A similar question might be is what kind of men's team today could beat and early NCAA or NBA team.

Hell, in my day I could play the O line or D line at about 200 to 240. Today I would get my arse kicked as the kids have gotten much heavier and MUCH faster. That in just 2 or 3 generations.

The bigger problem for both sexes is the kids actually getting off their computers and engaging in live sports. I see lots of fat boys and girls today than when I was young as we have a generation of full time couch potatoes.

My biggest concern was while the men would dominate physically, could the women answer with deep shooting and creative ways to get the ball into space.

That’s not shocking to me that the Ramsey guys would beat the women’s team. IM games at UGA were brutal if you didn’t have 3-4 good/great players on the floor.

I guess I just can’t wrap my mind around women being paid to play basketball could lose to a bunch of 16-18 year olds.

Imagine if they raised the rim for the mens game and they had to go back to team ball how many current NBA folks would be exposed for terrible basic skills.

20 years ago I can't remember a woman who could dunk. Now there is a 9th grader in SC who can dunk. The metrics are changing but year to year it seems slow but over a generation or two it will become more pronounced.

I have a harder time wrapping my mind about men being paid to play golf while the rest of us have to work for a living.

And there are talented high school level teams that could beat the defending women's world cup soccer team.

Boys and girls have different parts. If we followed the model of some mammals then the females would be hulking brutes. We don't.

You enjoy the women's sports because they are competing at their own level. Not to mention, in all honesty, most women's basketball players are more sexually appealing to me then LeBron James.

He might get you all tingly feeling but to me he looks like someone stretched out Gomer Pyle, dyed him black, and gave him a modest low post skill set. I find Britney Griner more appealing then him.

Granted... not greatly more appealing... but still.

At about age 15 the boys will be able to compete/beat the women’s national teams in sports where speed and athleticism matter.

As shitty as the WNBA is, the NBA is doing its best to get that margin as close as possible.

ETA: And yes, the best HS team in the country would beat a WNBA team.
