With all this talk of baseball, we’re overlooking Knoxville’s progress with clean energy

I want to take a second to shift the focus from baseball to what really matters: a cleaner tomorrow, as we shift away from fossil fuels, the sole cause of climate change and quite frankly, the most pressing issue this country faces.

This is fantastic news for Knoxville! A pioneering woman- and minority-owned firm, Mesa Associates, is leading the charge in sustainable energy solutions with its hydropower technology. What a gift to have the city of Knoxville represented in the SEC. But, while UT’s baseball team is a source of pride, Mesa's expansion positions Knoxville as a leader in clean energy, paving the way for a more sustainable future for the entire South. This is a win not just for sports fans, but for all who care about a cleaner tomorrow.

Generators that can create 250K watts using water will be made in Knoxville: Meet NuStreem

It’s paywalled, so I took the liberty of pasting the important stuff.

quote:

An Alabama-based company rethinking how clean energy can be generated on a large scale is planning its own large-scale expansion in Knoxville after acquiring technology to generate power through water.

The hydropower generators could “replace diesel-powered generators used for plant startup,” according to Mesa, and could “provide a continuous flow of water to support or maintain minimum stream flow requirements.” Simply put, the generators built by Mesa would use water instead of other potentially harmful forms of energy to power big, complex systems. Mesa Associates, founded in 1988, is a woman- and minority-owned company that offers engineering, procurement and construction management services. It acquired NuStreem in 2023 in what Ramsey called a priority move to expand its reach into clean energy services.

Sometimes, a win doesn’t have to be measured in home runs, but in a cleaner future. Let Mesa's groundbreaking hydropower technology be a beacon for the region, reminding us that progress not only wears orange, but the colors of sustainability and selflessness.

Discuss.

Someone has to. This is a thank you thread, btw. Paving the way for the southern cities to “get with it.”

We are all Vols fans this month.
