I agree with you.
But some people get drunk enough where walking away isn't an option for them. I've attempted to walk away from a lot of instances. (college-drunk frat guy talking shite type thing). Many times it works out fine, and I just leave with the SO. Other times they're drunk enough to follow and throw a cheap shot.
What I'm saying is that I think it's case-by-case and in that instant you have to go with your gut. You can tell when a situation has escalated to the point where you realize that the drunken guy isn't gonna just let you walk away, and him go back to his drunken business.
And it's a whole different ballgame if you think he's carrying. At that point you do what the frick you have to do.

Delta people love to fight. We're known for 3 things..that's fighting, excessive gambling (seriously I've seen farmers place over 100k on one dice roll) and sleeping with any girl who will give it up.
Delta guys last year managed to get a whole section in the MSU student section to break out in a fight.
Hell I could tell fight stories from back in HS all night. We used to do it just for fun after getting about a fifth of whiskey in..then be back to best friends the next day.
