This is a good question. I have read theories that the supposed Gray aliens that have come to Earth were actually artificial beings created by the aliens and sent here from their home world. My belief, and I see Kentucker is in agreement, has always been that if we encounter aliens, they will be artificial beings.

According to ancient astronaut theorists, they visited us a long time ago. There are runways in Peru, the Nazca lines.
Not sure if i believe "aliens" have been here but I do believe there are lifeforms not on earth, maybe even in our galaxy. I also think we are not the only sentient beings in the universe and there may even be a higher level of sentient that we can't achieve.
Also a fun fact there is more going on in the universe than most realize. For example without dark matter using a big bang model all the mass in the universe would have organized by now because of gravity. There are things that have hindered that though, dark matter, dark energy etc.

I have a UFO story too. Me and my friend were walking across the street from his house to church on a fall day. prolly around 6:45 the sun was setting. Was a beautiful array of colors red pink all of them converging. Then out of nowhere this black triangle cruises over, no lights, no noise nothing. Didn't look like the stealth fighters either I have seen those. It was really weird. I'm guessing it was the B2 but I specifically looked for the jagged look on the back of the UFO twas not there. It was a perfect triangle. That's my UFO story so they are indeed real.

Bob Lazar said on the Rogan show that the tech they were working on came from different craft that had been recovered and he said one of them was found on an archaeological dig. Whoa!

When he said that I said Whoa as well.
As a species we achieved space travel in 1957 with Sputnik. In roughly 60 years we've achieved in sending our technology outside our solar system...Voyagers 1 & 2 are both in interstellar space.
Now if there was another intelligent species (which I think there is) then who is to say that if they have a 5,000 year head start on us in space travel then why is not possible that we've seen things they've sent our way when other worlds, with only 60 years of tech, have seen ours.
Plus its hard to discount those recent pilot and pentagon disclosures.
