Haha yes. I was there as a recruiter. We bought a few kids shoes and clothes that lived in situations like that (our own money).

Lort! I forgot about that and the 'crooked Creek cowboy' folk. Iirc it was 3 k's instead of C's on their tattoos.

You can actually do some great fishing on Crooked Creek. I'm probably in a minority here (in Arkansas), but I hate the Buffalo. I've never had a good float there. Never. Not once. I always had to get out and carry my canoe from a low spot back to one deep enough for the canoe to float.

I always drove to the Bryant River in Missouri. Place called Dot Mill. We would do an 18 mile float that took most of the day. It was awesome. The river was kind of lazy and there weren't really any rapids or anything, but you could catch your limit on small mouth bass if you would get the 1 day visitors license. There was also some dude that had a huge playground at the top of a bluff and he had an assload of monkeys penned up. Sometimes they would be out on the rope swings above. Not something you'd expect to see and it would make you question how many beers you had drank.

Back in the day you could get a beer at Ernie's on Lake Calion at Crab Apple Point. Maybe still can.
