Have I argued against your reasons for using them?
When I asked "why do ppl still use the post office", I was asking a legitimate question.
You and Belle have provided reasons that I understand.

I really need help understanding this. Shouldn't the goal of the post office be to break even?
We already pay taxes to help support out government services why is everyone so obsessed with making the government earn more money from us? There are some services that should be provided by the government without the goal of making a profit. Education, Healthcare, Transportation, and Communication are all things that benefit us far more as a society if their goal isn't to make a profit.

they don't even come close to breaking even. Like I said on the previous page, they are losing about 25 mill a day.

quote:Well considering the scope of the post office that really isn't all that much overall. I know some post offices don't ever full time employ their delivery guys. The one in my home town kept them all as temp workers...even though some of them have been doing it for 20 years now. Only full time employee is the post master.

What they need to do is maximize their efficiency and find their niche in a market that has left them way behind. I really don't care for the post office to get privatized, big corporations are ruining this country as much as the government is if not more considering most government decisions these days are made due to big corporate lobbyist.

Do not know profit wise if it would help but why do they charge you for a PO Box when the workers/ mail are already there. BUT will drive 25 miles to home for free?
Seems a little backwards to me.

They lost over 1.2 billion in the last 3 months of 2012... You don't think that's a lot for a single agency regardless of size?

What was their total revenue?

Dumb question. Should the NSA be profitable? The State Dept? The OMB?
And the Postal Service actually was modestly profitable until Congress passed a law in 2007 requiring them to fund pensions for the next 75 years w/in 10 years.

I haven't mailed something through USPS since I was about 13. Though to be fair it's probably been 3-5 years since I mailed anything at all.
And that's all fine and well, but unfortunately legally some of us still have to use the USPS. I know our school spends a few thousand a year in mailings by the time we sent out notices about testing, events at the school, report cards, ECE/Special Ed paperwork (this is the big one that we are legally binded to), and etc.
I order stuff online all the time that UPS and FedEx carry to the point of dumping it off to USPS.

Yeah I get what you mean. With that statement I was really just telling my experience (or lack thereof) with USPS

Thank you for saying this. USPS would be fine if it weren't for the politics that were played into that law. No other gov organization has to fully fund their pensions in such a way. The post office is actually one of the better run gov organizations(which is extremely scary/sad).
