Remember the little Star Wars droid things?

They might be coming to a home near you to drop off a package if noted adulterer Jeff Bezos gets his way.

Amazon Starts Testing ‘Scout’ Delivery Robots Near Seattle

quote:

The e-commerce giant on Wednesday announced a trial of “Amazon Scout,” autonomous delivery devices the size of a cooler that roll along sidewalks at a walking pace. It will use six robots, which are designed to navigate around obstacles such as people and pets, to deliver packages in Snohomish County.

quote:

These might work in a brand new neighborhood that is well lit and has new sidewalks, but most of the world isn’t like that and neither is most of the United States,” Kara said.

I hope these things do take off and get implemented nation wide because I can’t wait for the YouTube videos of people accidentally, and purposefully, destroying them.

I'd be excited. Anything to get my packages quicker.

Lets be honest. Its not about speed of delivery, its about replacing human workers you have to pay.

I assume this would only be for cities, and not rural at all.

Rather pay an engineer more to fine tunes these than some idiot who barely got through HS who delivers the package to the wrong building.

Within the first 3 hours of deployment someone will have kicked the thing out into traffic.

yeah. Once companies are able to obtain robots that can do the same quality of work a man can do, a lot of people will be out of the job because those pay checks are minimizing profits. They wont even have to outsource jobs anymore for cheap labor, how convenient

Is that bad?
I tend to agree with this.
We are doing it now.

basic clerk positions completely eliminated.
Never understood how something as monotonous as that was even done by a person in the first place.

I would probably look at it out of curiosity, until the neighbor's apparently insatiable dog starts trying to frick it.
