Oh and being attractive with a nice rack never was a factor??

I'm curious, based on what?
By all accounts, she was successful in her actions as mayor, chairman of the Alaska oil/gas commission, and governor - with a record of consensus building with both parties to get legislation passed.
I'm not happy about the way she left the office of governor (it's a little more complex than "she's a quitter"), but I have read the reasoning and understand it. Regardless of duration, her record of effectiveness is pretty solid. JMHO.

Seriously?
Reagan worked with Tip O'Neill better than Obama works with Boehner. Clinton was pretty good at working with Republicans.

iglass - Alaska is a different animal than the lower 48 states. I was stationed there for 3 yrs and politicians tend to work together more because they're so isolated. The Alaskan mentality is just different (not demeaning them at all).

Gotcha. I'll say I'm basing all of my observations on her since she was tabbed as McCain's running mate. I haven't seen much out her since then as someone that would lead me to believe she would work with both sides.

She was an awesome mayor. I lived in the area at the time and the way she ran the city, including overseeing the PD was awesome. She was far more libertarian than conservative. As gov. she was pretty good. She wasn't ready for the national stage.

I don't have a problem with her leaving the way she did. Move-on.org put a lot of money, including hiring college students in the summer, to find out dirt or controversy, her legal fees were in the millions. She was vindicated in every case.
Alaska Government is very different than lower 48 and it takes a lot of cooperation to make it happen. She came in and kicked out Daddy Murkowski who was treating the job like it was his own personal kingdom, folks were happy about that.
She cleaned up some corruption, but should have stuck with the job and not looked any further. The State passed a law regarding legal fees for any governor moving forward so this doesn't happen again.

Does it really matter if she is smart or not? Public perception is that she isnt. Thats all that matters.

Politicians aren't required to be smart. See Joe Biden.
Funny how lefties are all over Palin about her "stupidity" but ignore Biden who's a gaffe machine.

I agree, but voters have the failing belief that "my guy" is not part of the problem. He/she is. Almost always.
Yep.
Love him or hate him, Bill Clinton nailed it a few months ago when Piers Morgan asked him about Congress's approval rating being in the toilet and how it's chic to trash congress. Clinton's response was that it's sort of hypocritical for the American people to say that because THEY are the ones electing and reelecting these idiots, and they're the ones subsidizing the ensuing idiocy by actually voting out those who reach across party lines (guys like Richard Luger of Indiana) in favor of divisive nut jobs. Clinton's exact line was "Americans constantly vote for that which they claim to hate."

Thanks for the explanation.
My understanding was that due to the way the state laws were set up, Palin and her family were responsible for the legal fees of defending her office personally from all the crap they were throwing at her, frivolous or not, and it was starting to get well into the hundreds of thousands of dollars out of her own pocket. No surprise, I couldn't do that myself either.
A buddy of mine used to live just up the road from Wasilla, maybe 10 miles away or so. His opinion was also favorable (I think he was there only during part of her governor's term).

Joe Biden isn't any dumber than John Kerry or Al Gore or Sheila Jackson Lee or that Hank guy who was worried about Guam tipping over. The reality is that there's a bunch of dumb people running our country and we allow it.

They were. Now, the governor isn't responsible as long as he/she is in office. It's changed since then.

I lived in Big Lake which is just West of Wasilla at the time. That area is exploding. The Wasilla-Palmer area is a great place to live

Its a lot easier to get elected when people think you are though.

He smart enough to get elected multiple times and not commit career suicide by quitting mid term.

A large part of the problem with our present construct is that it doesn't behoove Congress to do anything essentially every other year. It's pretty much a given that nothing will get done this year because "we can't tackle big issues in an election year!"
It's also become solid practice for a politician to introduce and push a piece of garbage legislation he/she knows will not get passed, simply as a transparent attempt to run back to constituents and brag about "fighting for them."

He's a Democrat in Rhode Island. He just needed to get the nomination the first time and then he's set. Not that that was a given. But it's not like he had to invent the light bulb or the internet.

Around 50 votes to repeal ACA in the House, many only so newly elected Reps can have a vote to repeal on their resume. So ridiculous.

Pretty much all of this. I cannot imagine how dumb one has to be to reelect Jackson Lee or Hank Johnson.

So, Sarah should move to Alabama. She would always get reelected.
