All those folks are dead and gone now. The original "carpet joints" were on the strip across from the Castaways (best bar ever) where you could hang with Jimmy Hoffa and Hemingway and Wolfie Cohen's food joint. All those "swank" hotel / entertainment / gambling with the exact names all would up populating the Vegas strip a generation or two later.
HRV, depending on how old you are, and how much time you spent at the track in Hot Springs, did you ever know an old dude there named Owney Madden?
