Was Kurt Russell "The Thing"?

Saw a theory about it yesterday.
The entire argument revolved around alcohol, specifically the bottle Kurt pours his drink from before dumping it into the computer
So the dog/thing shows up at the beginning and licks bennings gloves while being chased by the Norwegians. Then bennings gets shot by the Norwegians. Kurt Russell then runs to him, and hands him the bottle of scotch
Bennings puts his gloved hand on the bottle. We get the big speech later about how 1 cell of the thing can take over an entire organism
The theory goes, Russell drank from this bottle again at some point and the transformation began due to the dog slobber on the bottle
This one cell theory is heightened by
-Fuechs near immediate death after telling kurt they should only be eating out of cans cause the thing could take them over easily that way
-when they take Blair outside after he's axed a bunch of stuff, Kurt takes a drink from an alcohol bottle, then leaves it with him. By the end of the movie Blair is a thing
Then at the end, the bottle from the beginning, he gives to childs to drink. He laughs when he drinks it because he's turning him (hence the music kicking in). And ironically, his view of the things goal as being "waiting to freeze till a search party finds it" is what he decides to do at the end, telling childs they should "wait"
As for the blood test, argument was the thing could easily transform its body to have a hidden "pocket" with blood from the freezer that's wrecked earlier in the movie, and use it.
I'm still of the opinion Childs was a thing. But thought this was an interesting theory

One part of why "The Thing" is such a great movie is that it is open to interpretation. Either of the final two survivors could be a Thing. Neither of them could. The Thing itself could be carefully waiting somewhere else in the camp waiting to be found when the rescue party comes.
The movie does not wrap things up in a pretty little bow for the viewer. Which is perfect because the entire movie you were wondering, who is and isn't infected? They don't tell you its over even when the credits are rolling.

There's a great short story, called "The Things", and it tells the story from the alien's point of view. It/They view what they do as a gift, and can't understand the hostility of the humans. Don't they know that they get to join their consciousness to a thousand prior beings and gain all those experiences? Why are they trying to kill us?
It's a really interesting read:

I need to rewatch this John Carpenter classic. Will update after that. Thank you, Fatguy, for putting this on my radar.

No problem. It's one of those where the little details seem to matter

Same; it's been so long I can't recall the details, but I love this sort of stuff.

James Arness (Matt Dillon) was "The Thing".

Me gusta... but unfortunately alcohol is a disinfectant so it'd be VERY hard for an organism to survive in a bottle of whiskey.

This. The early 60's version of the thing

I like the thing from another world.
Obviously not the same type of alien as the one in Carpenters movie, but a vegetable life form that thrives on blood and can quite literally plant more of its self at will is a scary concept as well
