A gunman opened fire and injured two people at a Philadelphia nightclub March 31 after being told he wasn’t allowed to enter.

Around 3:30 a.m. the suspect wanted to enter Candela’s Bar & Restaurant, but was denied entry. Angered, he hurled a grate through the window and left. He returned several minutes and fired four shots into the club, hitting a security guard in his left cheek and a female patron in the back of the head, HLNTV reports.

The security guard was transported to Einstein Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. The female victim suffered only minor injuries and was released from the hospital.

Police responded less than 15 minutes after the shooting occurred, but the suspect had already fled and remains at large.

15 minutes in a major city to respond to 2 people shot. Awesome.

Agree. Perfect case to show how you're on your own for protection and LE are reactionary and shouldn't be relied on for one's sole protection.

It's hilarious/ironic how indignant you are about it taking 15 minutes for cops to arrive, yet you keep spouting off this "more firearms, less violence" bullshite.

Gun-related violent crime continues to drop in Virginia as the sales of firearms continue to soar

quote:

Looking back over seven years, total firearm sales in Virginia have risen a staggering 101 percent from 2006 to 2012, while gun-related crime has dropped 28 percent during that period

quote:

crime reductions correspond with a steady increase in the legal demand for firearms as law-abiding American people have sought to exercise their Second Amendment rights, enjoy recreational shooting and even go afield with a new modern sporting rifle. The latest ATF figures demonstrate how manufacturers responded to this demand. Firearms production in 2012 topped 8.57 million, up 31 percent from 6.54 million in 2011.

Preliminary figures indicate that, as a whole, law enforcement agencies throughout the nation reported a decrease of 5.4 percent in the number of violent crimes brought to their attention for the first 6 months of 2013 when compared with figures reported for the same time in 2012. The violent crime category includes murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. The number of property crimes in the United States from January to June of 2013 decreased 5.4 percent when compared with data for the same time period in 2012. Property crimes include burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft. Arson is also a property crime, but data for arson are not included in property crime totals. Figures for 2013 indicate that arson decreased 15.6 percent when compared to 2012 figures from the same time period

NICS background checks in
2011 16,454,951
2012 19,592,353
2013 21,093,273
2014 to date 6,236,060
