Two different meals of course.
Besides the battlefield, what else should I see/do?
TIA as always

LD’s Kitchen for catfish / southern food.
10 south rooftop bar and grill for dinner.
Both are close to each other. Stuff to do: casinos and the military park.
ETA: the park takes a long time to go through if you’re trying to see everything.

Eat at Walnut Hills. Dinner if possible but they're open for lunch as well. Really really great food.

If Rusty’s Riverside is still there that is where he wants to eat.

Agree. 10 south has a great view but the food is horrible. Rusty’s is my favorite place to eat in Vicksburg

Beachwood Inn Restaurant is excellent. We always stop there.

Rowdy's for catfish. It doesn't look like anything special but they do catfish right.
Hard to pick between Walnut Hills and Rusty's for a "decent restaurant". Walnut Hills typically has a big round table with a LOT of home cooking just like your grandma made (assuming your grandma was an excellent cook.) You need to call in advance for dinner and tell them you want a round table. For lunch you don't need to call.
Rusty's has the best filet I've ever tried, and I'm a beef snob.
The battlefield is a must-see, but if you're really interested in the battle you should be prepared to spend half a day minimum there. If you're an engineer geek you might find the dredge museum interesting. (Yes, we have a museum dedicated to dredges. ) It is across the street from Rusty's.

The battle field is amazing. The loss of life on both sides was horrendous.. Brave men on both sides. If you go and stand where they stood ask your self if you could have stood and fought. No one took a knee when the Anthem was played and sung.
