Vacation Woes

With summer fast approaching, I was wondering if anyone has had a vacation derailed by a natural disaster or natural phenomenon.
I was taking my fam to Puerto Rico last year and it was derailed by Hurricane Maria so obviously it didn’t happen.
My boss was taking his family to Hawaii next week and it’s looking unlikely with the volcano eruptions near where they were going to stay.

If he's booked at one of the resorts on the leeward side of the island, he's probably okay unless they have a large eruption that cancels flights.

I tore several ligaments in both knees skiing in march... not gonna make it to hiking in peru next week. Ruined 2 vacations at once
But to more appropriately address the OP, hurricane matthew bachelor party in miami. Groom was in canada, a couple guys flying from cali, one guy coming from a Caribbean island in the path of the storm. Only the guy from the caribbean made it to so fla. Stayed home and took the storm worse in north florida than what i would've seen on south beach

Honeymoon on Vieques Island last year was ruined because of Hurricane Maria.
Wedding went from a large affair to about 150 people due to Hurricane Nate. It started coming through during the reception.
Fallback honeymoon location was Sonoma. We had to evacuate less than 24 hours after arriving due to wildfires.

Wildfires and earthquakes both scare the hell out of me.

It was surreal waking up to what smelled like a campfire, then going out to the parking lot to see a ridge line on fire and people running across the parking lot with their luggage in tow and jumping in cars.
I told my wife it was the perfect day to be in Sonoma because we would be the only ones there. Unfortunately, there was only one tasting room open, and the hotel basically told us in the afternoon that we had to leave because the closest fire was 2 miles away and moving toward town.
Today I found out that my assistant, who is on her honeymoon, was on the Carnival cruise ship that started flooding in the gulf. Fortunately, her room was not impacted.
