What are you some kind of illegal alien that ran from Mexico to Arizona? Jeez. Take a car or a plane.

I'll stick with Tough Mudder, Spartan, and Warrior Dash. Marathons are boring.

Longest non-stop canoe/kayak race in the world. It's called the MR340 (Missouri River 340 Miles). Takes place over 4 days and 4 nights. 9 checkpoints. You must make each checkpoint by a timed deadline. Average river current is 3.5 miles per hour. You must average at least 7 miles per hour to finish in time.

Grueling. Exhausting. Dangerous. Exhilarating (when you finish). You experience the entire gammit of emotions during this race.

A true bucket list type ultra endurance event.

Enjoy. I'll watch it on TV on sportsmans channel when they make it a 30 minute summary show.

So you don't even run?

What a gyp to use gravity, currents, and other forms of mother nature to do all the work. So if I get on a barge in Yankeeland somewhere and cruise the mighty Mississippi to NOLA I am some sort of super athlete?

Get me a paddlewheeler, non stop poker games, and a case of Pappy Van Winkle and then you might have my interest.

I run about 20 miles per week

You wouldn't last the first 24 hours. Hell, you wouldn't make the first cutoff.

Your core, back, and shoulders are essentially running a 340 mile ultra marathon. You must be in top physical and mental shape to complete this race.

Based on your post, I can tell that you'd be an early race casualty.

However, I would absolutely enjoy a paddlewheeling drunk fest on the mighty Mississippi as a casual vacation.

Do you think you can just wake up one day and play cards non stop with no sleep and only warm booze to keep you company? It takes decades of dedication and training to go 4 straight days with zero sleep and only cigars and sweet painted ladies to keep you awake. This is not your casual post game football kegger where you wake up the next afternoon in bed with some 300 pound russian woman, 2 midget hookers, and the flattened remains of what appears to be an extinct reptile.

Do you actually think people could complete a 4 day 4 night 340 mile race on the Missouri River against the current in under 88 hours?

No.

Paddling with a 3 mph current isn't bad either. Unless the pace is just insane.

For example, the race starts on a July Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the morning. Your first checkpoint is 50 miles away and you must be there no later than 5:00 pm. That gives you 9 hours to reach that checkpoint.

If you simply floated at the speed of the current (average 3.5 miles per hour), you would have only traveled 31.5 miles by 5:00 pm.

The next checkpoint is 23 mile beyond the 1st checkpoint and you must be there no later than 9:00 pm.

Thefore, in the first 13 hours of the race you must have at least traveled 73 miles. If you floated no faster than the speed of the current, you would have only traveled 45.5 miles.

On the flipside, if you averaged 7 miles per hour (double the speed of the current), you will have traveled 91.0 miles in 13 hours.

I hope you realize that averaging double the speed of the current is not easy. To demonstrate this, attempt to paddle your canoe or kayak an average of 3.5 - 4 miles per hour on flat water for an extended amount of time.

Come back and tell me how long you can maintain that average speed on flat water and then consider doing that for 4 days and 4 nights with no sleep.

On top of that, maintain that average speed while racing in Missouri's incredibly hot and humid July heat which usually averages somewhere between 90 - 100 degrees each day.

I'm not saying it's easy.

I'm saying with current that fast you don't have to be on for the entire time. Just like any off road foot race. You eventually go down hill and can coast for a bit.

Is it open entry or do you have to qualify?

Okay, now you have my interest...

Medium wave runs between about 530 and 1700

Long wave runs between what 150 and 300

For a station to broadcast between say 300 and 500 what type of radio equipment would you need to receive transmissions and better yet, who transmits in that range (like oldies channel or alt rock channel)?

As to all this chest puffing here is some points to consider

320 miles divided by 88 hours equals 3.86 miles per hour and the current runs between 3 and 4 miles per hour. Two people with a few 6 packs of Red Bull could probably do that in their sleep. A few six packs and a bottle or 2 of vodka and they could do it while entertaining the natives.

As to running 20 miles per week, no big deal. Imagine running 10 miles a day over undulating rough terrain - wilderness and foothills - with weights on both arms and both legs. I had an old German coach who probably was hiding out in the USA after an early career as a fitness trainer for the SS. Dude was a total badass and he built some though arse guys in his coaching career. 2 buddies of mine from St Louis entered boot after spending time with this guy and said boot was a breeze.

As for me me at my current age, well this quote probably sums it up pretty well.

Paulie may have moved slow, but it was only because Paulie didn't have to move for anybody. -Henry Hill
