Contradictory statement is contradictory.

They know the limited regional history of the word. That isn't the issue.

Several people in this thread didn't know the history of the word, so yeah that's pretty ignorant.

Yes, they do. You're decades behind the times.

I know the history of the word Negro. It was neutral. Can I use it?

Dude, educate us. Don't be so niggardly with that wealth of knowledge.

Niggardly is phonetically similar to the N word but their etymologies are completely different.

Consider yourself educated.

No one is wanting her to leave. Just saying if she hates it so much then she should exercise her right to leave.

Would gladly spend my hard-earned money for a one way plane ticket out of the USA if she promised never to return under any circumstances.

We should take up a collection - I'll pitch in. If she hates it here so much; she needs to leave. Now.

What do you think the issue is?

Rebelgator said a black girl got the Al Sharpton scholarship for being uppity. If he knows the "limited regional history" of the word, then how can you say that phrase isn't racist?

What is racism?

Why does it matter in an internet discussion to take someone's comments and label them "racist"?

What's the point?

I am. People die every goddamn day trying to get into this country she hates so much. Minorities risk their necks to get a smidgen of the freedoms that she enjoys on a daily basis, whether she admits to such or not. Is America perfect? NO! Does this nation have a sordid past? Yes (just like any other nation on the face of this earth). Do we have a long way to go with race relations? Absolutely.

But have we made and are we making great strides to right said wrongs? Yes, to the tune of being in the midst of one of the quickest 180s with regards to racial relations in recorded history.

Saying you hate this "racist" country, the one that makes it more possible than just about any other nation to succeed no matter what your melanin count is, is absolutely galling, and reeks of ungratefulness, not to mention a deplorable dearth of perspective.

So, yes, frick her and those who think like her. If they hate this country so much and want to leave, then I hope they spin gravel getting out the damn door.

If you wanna get all existential then I could ask what's the point of this thread, or this board, or the Internet. We're all just jacking off in here anyway.

I just pwned everyone in this thread, and even gave out some free history and linguistics lessons. You should be thanking me.

Haha, totally bungled that one. What I meant to say before I got ahead of myself is the word iteslf is not a racist term, but just because you(not the literal you) don't understand the historical connotations of it, it doesn't remove those connotations. Like any potentially offensive term, it comes down to the context in which it is used.

And no, I do not hate dissenters. I hate prejudiced, entitled malcontents who have no respect for anyone or anything. Like the families and friends of these policemen. I was taught that if you don't have anything nice to say, shut up. She should exercise that right for a change.
