Spending money on home alarm system. Is it worth it?

How do you feel about home alarm systems? I generally feel like, we lock everything up at night and we have a dog that would bark at intruders, so we’re covered. Does an alarm system provide any value besides peace of mind?
I looked up the company through homestars to find a company with very good reviews. I haven't contacted a large company like ADT yet. But I think their prices would be even higher without self monitoring.

I have a really good alarm system with a failsafe backup in place. Sure it cost more but the benefits and feeling of calm made it all worth it.

One can deliver a crushing blow to the ankles while the other one licks the robber to death waiting for the cops to arrive

Problem with most alarm systems is they are call centers in other parts of the country and may not be aware of local issues - like heavy rains that set them off - so lots of false alarms and you have to pay the cops every time they come.

If the dogs don't work, the next best advice is move into a neighborhood of older folks (already retired) and you will be amazed how much they eat h your house when you are not there. Of course they watch your house when you are there too, so draw the blinds if you have company.

You have Bill Gates watch your house when you are gone?

What does he charge for something like that?

Is Microsoft in trouble these days?

There was one in our house when we bought it. We paid to have it fixed and set up because our insurance made us. It got struck by lightning a few weeks later. That was 17 years ago and we haven't done anything about it.

If some day aliens wipe us out and they are sifting through the debris like our archeologists they will surmise that was the golden age of comics

He was a sellout.

Bill the Cat is Garfield on steroids

I always figured Garfield readers also read Cathy.

Cathy.

Seems like they quit running that one in my paper, but then when I was reading the comics consistently Bloom County had been renamed Opus.
How is Garfield a sellout?

Nope, they stopped Bloom County and did a spinoff called Outland. Had some crossover characters but some new ones like Cocklberry Cockroach and Roland Anne.

OK, must have missed that

Opus was in Bloom County
Opus was in Outland

Garfield was a sellout because he got too commercial and the storyline never changed. How much can you eat lasagna and still keep it fresh? Besides no cat ever took one for the team and took out the spiders in my house. They just sat around and watched till I had to deal with it.

There were some changes throughout the series, Jon got Odie, he finally dated the vet gal after getting refused. Garfield had that grey cat coming in and out of his life, there was a girl cat as well IIRC.
He did get pretty commercial but so has Charlie brown
Havent had a cat kill a spider but they'll kill other bugs and mice. Dogs are more likely to get the job done though

Yeah, but I am old enough to remember "early" Charlie Brown when it was not about selling products. Garfield was in that He Man wave where cartoons went from entertainment to infomercials.

Plus, Bill the Cat partied with Jean Kirkpatrick and Snoopy was a WWI flying ace. What did Garfield do besides eat and get fat?

Not much but he did it the right way

I do remember a series of some sort where he went to an island with jon and they had to do some sort of sacrifice via driving a convertible into a volcano to appease some spirit
