It isn't PC. It's just a dumb name. We are immune to it, but think about how offensive and stupid that name is.

Would the Atlanta Blackfaces go over very well? Or the San Fransico Yellow Men?

My grandmother was a Redskins fan, and being 100% Native American, she was never offended by it.

Seriously, why is it offensive?

Because someone two generations ago was called a Redskin in anger?

It's an old racist term. We're just so sensitive to the implication that something is "racist" that we're afraid of the mere implication.

So is Spook, but I don't see anyone naming a team the Washington Spooks.

Well she is in the minority. Every time Native Americans are polled the numbers are between 70-80% offended by the name.

Are you Native American? If not, why are you so offended?

I imagine you'd get the same reaction from calling a black person a spook as you would get from calling a Native American a redskin.

that would be zero.

It starts with white and ends with guilt.

Actual polls disagree with your opinion.

Luckily I don't chose how I feel about stuff by polls.

Of all the spooks and redskins I've encountered, none have been offended enough to say something.

ETA: I'm not even a big guy.

there's a poll asking blacks how they feel about being called a spook?

Every Native American that I know, and I knew plenty growing up, weren't offended by the name. I'm not offended by the name, and I'm part Native American. My relatives are, and they're not offended.

It seems to me that it's much ado about nothing. A bunch of overly sensitive people who are offended easily.

I didn't ask how it made you feel, I was telling you that you are wrong.

I was referring to the Native American redskin poll.

And I'm glad your white guilt is supported enough by polls to make it seem like a reasonable option for you.

I'm not even supporting a name change. I'm just pointing out how it is a stupid name. It wasnt very well thought out.

Same thing I would think if there were the San Francisco Slant Eyes or the San Antonio Wetbacks. There really is no difference between those 2 and Washington Redskins.

I guarantee you that there are more minorities on this site other than Tbird, like me for example.
