My lady waited tables for a long time, it's understood that black people don't tip. Servers expect it. Did you even read the note in the OP? The couple even acknowledges the stereotype.

"Please do not assume because we are young and black, a tip will not be received."
No tip received.
No tip received.

So did mine, and she agrees with me.
Folks who come in to a restaurant looking cheap and raggedy don't tip, regardless of race. Folks who have their shite together tend to tip well, again regardless of race.
Sorry you and your lady bought into such a racial stereotype. Surprising coming from you, tbh

He's a democrat, they don't think highly of black people. You know this.

Sometimes stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. Just start Googling "Black people don't..." and "tip" is the first thing that will pop up. I guarantee it.

Research proves black people don't tip as well
I guess Cornell is buying into the racial stereotype too.

The customers in the situation just seem to be bitter. They said the service was great. They were mad because a couple came in behind them and got their check first? What if the other couple ate faster? What if they were visibly done before them?
I also find it very funny on the second one not tipping.
I also appreciate the European approach to tipping. Many find tipping offensive, since it is their job. I don't get paid any better by doing my job well.
That said, I understand that in the US it is different.
I personally always leave a cash tip...usually 10%, 20% if it is a nice place. I would rather have my server just put the tip in their pocket, or even share it with the cooks, rather than let it get taxed again.

Yeah, and if I type in "black people like..." one of the first suggestions will be "fried chicken" or "watermelon."
Seriously, dude? Google?
DGAF what your woman or Cornell say. Aggiebelle and I have both wanted tables (in different establishments in different cities) and not come to racist conclusions.
But on some level, I suspect you're trolling here, so I'll just keep laughing atcha

From the Cornell study that Stonehog linked...
quote:
This report draws on the available research to pose and answer questions about race differences in tipping and about what servers, restaurant managers, industry organizations, and restaurant chains could do about those differences. The available research indicates the following:
Tips from Blacks are, on average, lower than those from Whites;
Black-White differences in restaurant tipping are not caused solely by race differences in socio-economic status;
Black-White differences in restaurant tipping are evident among the middle-class as well as the lower-class; (sorry Tbird)
Black-White differences in restaurant tipping do not disappear when both groups get comparable service;
Blacks tip less than Whites even when the server is Black;
Blacks are much less familiar with the 15- to 20-percent restaurant tipping norm than are Whites;
Blacks tip less than do Whites in many (but not all) other service contexts; and
Asian-White and Hispanic-White differences in tipping are smaller, less robust, and have drawn less attention than Black-White differences in tipping.

I waited tables at a restaurant, a black girl also worked there. One night she had enough and said she wasn't going to wait on the black table that came in. She was fired. The black waitress was so staunch about not waiting on other blacks that she lost her job over it.
I know, it's just allegory.
But lots and lots of allegory = data.

You can't be serious right now.
How about this line from the study:
quote:
A widespread perception in the restaurant industry is that Black patrons tip less than do White customers.
You think they just pulled that out of their arse? Or should they have consulted you and your wife first, then they could have saved some time and energy instead of doing this study.

last night i pulled a dick move at the casino. The waiter was fricking terrible about filling up the drinks, so i left some change and a one on the table. I hate having to do that but if i get extremely terrible service I'm going to say something about it and leave a dollar. Then again when service is normal ill throw down 20 to 25% depending on how much i go to the place.

Actually, it's an anecdote
And really the only reason I compare my experiences waiting tables to my wife's are because she's white and I'm black
I always got great tips regardless of the race of my clients because I am a charming motherfricker.
Wifey's just cute, so...

I just tip great regardless. Idk if the person before me was a douche and the server was down about that, or if they've got personal stuff going on, etc. It's a hard job, usually a thankless one, and if I can be the dude who helps turn their day or night around, that's what I wanna do.
