I went to see it last night and thought it was great. I've seen people complain about the fact it changed what use to be Canon. I'm of the opinion that people need to get over it and realize the only way more movies are going to be made is if someone like Disney bought the franchise and they are going to do what they want with it. I'm happy to see more movies. I thought it was very well done and also closed a major plot hole.

Before Disney bought Star Wars, there was a general story line 'canon' that writers had to follow for their works to be sanctioned (and maybe even licensed?).
When Disney got the rights, they also got the right to define that framework however they saw fit and suddenly tossed the old one out on its arse.
Many fanboys died to acquire that canon, and now it is in the hands of the Empire.

It means that those Ewan McGregor movies are no longer part of Star Wars.

quote:Vast majority of Star Wars books and games that expanded upon the universe generally after Return of the Jedi are no longer accepted as part of the continuing story line.
What does this mean?
For example, a whole series of videos games that featured Kyle Katarn as the protagonist was extremely successful, but with the current canon, I don't know if Katarn even exists anymore.

This is a lot to follow. Y'all need Jesus.

That is not what it means. Those are still canon.
What it means is all the books, comics, and graphic novels that are not the movies, clone wars and rebels cartoon and new books are no longer apart of the official story line. Everything that was canon is now considered "legends."

I know Jesus, but I also really like Star Wars. I appreciate your concern though.

Good because most are pretty bad. Leave Star Wars in the hands of professionals, please. Not fanfic writers.

I'm sorry I asked this question.
For me, Star Wars began in 1977 and entails six episodes. If something is not congruent with those six episodes, then it isn't Star Wars in my opinion.
I don't know what 'force awakens' is and I don't know what 'rogue one' is - would seem to be part of the story that explains, is part of, or follows episodes 1 thru 6.
But I keep hearing different things and don't know if Star Wars is dead, extended, changed, or what.
You could not have a simpler entity to maintain and reap billions from, than the original six episodes and Lucas' story / commentary. Now they've muddied the waters and I have no clue what's going on. Leave it to uber liberal Disney to screw things up, yet again.
Liberals are the worst people ever.

Are you trying to sound like a parody? Because if so, you're succeeding. And it's pretty sad.

You realize American conservatives are liberals by nature too?
Hell, neoconservativism is actually just neoliberalism
Unless you're alt right, then you're national socialist.

Awesome. that guy is an annoyingly shitty actor.

How does ever topic come around to liberals ruining everything?

Liberal douche.

Wrong. Liberals are not what their name suggests, much like the Cincinnati Reds aren't actually red. Liberals, as a group, are terrible people.

Wrong. Neither term has a concrete meaning and both terms are twisted and altered to suit one's agenda.

Wrong again. Alt-right is also another contrived term without any concrete definition.

Do Alabama fans root for the order restore empire or the underdog rebellion?

So, no one can actually answer my question. That would support the notion that Disney has screwed this up. Even the wikipedia entry is ambiguous.
Lucas deserves blame as well. If he hadn't sold out to Disney, this wouldn't be an issue.
Basically, Star Wars is dead. Also, just found out the hero in this movie is a woman. So, really, this is just a continuation of Hollywood's anti-man crap, just like Ghostbusters 2.
I will pass on this movie.

I did answer your question.
If you wish me to explain further I will but it appears you have an agenda and my explanation doesn't help with that.

Loved the movie.
It reminded me of the dirty dozen.
People look way to hard to find crap to be outraged or cynical about.
It is movie with lots of action and fighting with pretty cool space fights.
The only thing that creeped me out a bit was seeing how technology can now make dead actors seem alive in new scenes.
