I'm an art enthusiast and looking into maybe buying replicas of famous paintings such as Starry Night, Storm on the Sea of Galilee, the Mona Lisa, the Scream, among others. I want actual paintings in original size and framed up nice.

I've found a couple of web sites where you can buy such paintings, but one doesn't frame and the other doesn't offer original sizing unless you call and custom order. I obviously don't mind making a phone call, but I thought I would ask if anyone here has an any experience with this.

Just looking for the best deal I can get on a quality replica.

Luckily you posted this on the Off-Topic Board, rather than the O-T lounge. They know nothing of replicas

I would advise on getting the best possible piece up to what you want to spend and then have them framed locally. You will be able to choose from more options and probably get better quality in the frame. FWIW, a lot of local frame stores will also be able to provide you with options for repos as well.

Thanks for the tip. I will look into some local framing shops and see what kind of feedback I get.

Art is still a face to face business for the most part.

The nearest shops that might be able to provide the kind of framing I want are at least an hour away, but I will ask if they can handle it for me.

Often you can buy high quality lithographs of famous paintings from the museum where the original is displayed. We've done that in the past on trips we took then used a local quality frame shop to frame the artwork.

Best source of replica art is yard sales and folks that are moving.

Have you considered buying from modern artists? It's not as expensive as might think and many will work out payment plans with you.

The painting I want most is Rembrandt's Storm on the Sea of Galilee. The best option I have found so far that will paint and frame it is oilpaintings.com. On their web site they have eight standard sizes for all their paintings and say they also do custom sizes. If I buy this painting, I want it to be the same size as the original - which is pretty large at 62.99'' x 50.39''.

I don't know how much a custom order will affect the price, but a framed painting (they have quite a few good frames you can choose from) in one of their standard sizes that is two inches shorter each way than the original runs $828. That's taxes, shipping, everything.

I sent them an e-mail yesterday to ask about the price of a custom order but haven't heard back.
