Call whatever you want. I disagree, but I still enjoy your posts.

I wouldn't worry about it. You could declare that puppies and kittens are cute and BoarEd would call bullshite on it. It is his way of saying hello or asking how you are doing that day.

So, catholics worship Mary, the mother of Christ and I understand the great respect for her but I believe it is worshipping a false idol

Is this something they teach in some protestant religions? I hear this quite often. like others have stated, not true...

why do Catholics confess their sins to a priest when Christianity only says you are supposed to ask for forgiveness to Jesus?

These are two separate things, what are you asking?

When I moved to S. Alabama as a teenager, a girl in my class was asking me where I was from and inevitably asked me what church I went to....told her I was Catholic and she stammered "Oh, well you know y'all are going to hell right?" I asked her why was that and she explained that we drank real wine at communion not grape juice. I said "Didn't Christ turn the water into wine at the wedding?" She told me that wasn't the same kind of wine we have today, the wine in Christ's time was made from fermented grapes. I was confused..lol

You should have told her that we don't drink wine-we drink Jesus' blood. The real thing.

I heard a radio program out of Memphis one time where the preacher was explaining to the radio flock that the wine that was associated with Jesus was grape juice and the wine that was associated with bad things in the Bible was real wine. The mental gymnastics and references to his Bible interpretations (the substance of which he didn't share with the audience) were interesting, to say the least.

Best to just nod and slowly back away from the conversation at that point.

I mean I get that back in the day(like hundreds of years ago) Protestants and Catholics were essentially at war with each other over Christianity, but whats the point of teach such animosity towards other faiths and Christian religions at that. While attending my many years of ccd, we would often go to other religions churches, synagogues, etc.. to learn about them, not belittle them.

Because fear is the easiest way to keep a flock in its fold and away from learning about other faiths.

It’s a thing in certain churches, triggers the us vs. them responses and gets people committed to them. Mostly Baptists and Evangelicals.

Christianity tends to be a bit more calm about religious differences because we had a very nasty religious war (Thirty Years War) back in the day that took some starch out of folks sails. Add to that the Churches in Europe tended to have the misfortune of backing the losers in various civil wars.

America is a bit more fervent about things, we were founded by religious zealots after all, but our society was set up to keep religion out of government and vice versa as much as possible. Its a huge advantage we have over Muslim societies where religion is explicitly assigned a dominant role in government.

No, it's just how it looks to someone on the outside.

To be fair, this was in 1977, so for many on here that was the equivalent to ancient times.

They aren't around as much anymore, but have you ever run across the religious tracts by Chick publishing out of Nashville? That guy had a serious problem with Catholics.

I remember seeing these around when I was younger. I never knew the name of the publisher.

Id say most churches do this on one level or another. If they didn't there would be no commitment to the church and no defined beliefs
